The song in this post is from the movie ‘Chaachaa Bhateejaa’ which was released in the year ‘1977’.
If one goes through the ‘list of movies’ released during this year i.e. 1977, one can notice that this was one among the ‘best years’ for Hindi Films. We can see diverse subjects on which movies were based though the central theme of most of the movies revolved around ‘formula movies and entertainment’.
134 Hindi movies were released in the year 1977. These included movies like ‘Aadmi Sadak Ka’, ‘Aalaap’, ‘Aap Ki Khaatir’, ‘Aashiq Hoon Bahaaron Ka’, ‘Abhi To Jee Lein’, ‘Agent Vinod’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Anurodh’, ‘Apnaapan’, ‘Bhoomika’, ‘Chaachaa Bhateejaa’, ‘Chaandi Sonaa’, ‘Chalaa Muraari Hero Banane’, ‘Chhailaa Baaboo’, ‘Darling Darling’, ‘Dharam Veer’, ‘Dildaar’, ‘Doosraa Aadmi’, ‘Dream Girl’, ‘Dulhan Wahi Jo Piyaa Man Bhaaye’, ‘Gharonda’, ‘Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin’, ‘Inkaar’, ‘Karm’, ‘Khattaa Meethhaa’, ‘Khel Khilaadi Ka’, ‘Khoon Paseenaa’, ‘Kinaaraa’, ‘Kissaa Kursi Kaa’, ‘Kitaab’, ‘Konduraa’, ‘Mukti’, ‘Palkon Ki Chhaaon Mein’, ‘Parwarish’, ‘Priyatamaa’, ‘Safed Haathhi’, ‘Safed Jhoothh’, ‘Shankar Hussain’, ‘Shataranj Ka Khilaadi’, ‘Shirdi Ke Saainbaabaa’, ‘Solah Shukarwaar’, ‘Swaami’, ‘Yahi Hai Zindagi’ etc.
As per IMDB, twenty-nine movies were highly successful which includes some titles from the list I have mentioned above. There were some movies which were not successful commercially but they are regarded as classics or best movies of this year.
The year 1977 was a highly successful year for director Manmohan Desai. Four movies directed by him were released in 1977 and all of them were hit movies. These were the movies ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Chaachaa Bhateejaa’, ‘Dharam Veer’ and ‘Parwarish’. Out of these four movies ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Dharam Veer’ were the biggest hits of the year and they were declared as the ‘blockbuster’ movies whereas ‘Chaachaa Bhateejaa’ and ‘Parwarish’ were declared as ‘hit’ movies of that year.
Director Manmohan Desai turned producer with the movie ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’. The movie ‘Dharam Veer’ was produced by his brother Subhash Desai’. Whereas ‘Parwarish’ was produced by A.A. Nadiadwala, and Baldev Pushkarna and M.M. Malhotra were the producers of the film ‘Chaachaa Bhateejaa’.
As I have mentioned earlier I remember to have watched movies like ‘Agent Vinod’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Chaachaa Bhateejaa’, ‘Chhailaa Baaboo’, ‘Dharam Veer’, ‘Dildaar’, ‘Dream Girl’, ‘Hum Kisise Kam Nahin’, ‘Khoon Paseenaa’, and ‘Shirdi Ke Saainbaba’ with elders in the family or with brothers and cousins, when I was a growing up as a child.
Today I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Chaachaa Bhateejaa’. This movie has music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. This movie has some good songs (if not great songs) which were quite popular those days and one can enjoy listening to these songs even today.
“Chaachaa Bhateejaa-1977’ was directed by Manmohan Desai for ‘Dreamland, Bombay’. It was produced by Baldev Pushkarna and M.M. Malhotra. The cast of this movie included Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Randhir Kapoor, Yogeeta Bali, Rehman, Anwar Hussain, Indrani Mukherjee, Jeevan, Roopesh Kumar, Sonia Sahni, Dev Kumar, Durga Khote, Satyajit, Hercules, Tuntun, Keshto Mukherjee and others.
This movie has seven songs that were written by Anand Bakshi. Music for this movie was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The singers who lend their voices to the songs in this movie are Mohd Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Shailendra Singh, Asha Bhonsle, and Kishore Kumar.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 08.03.1977.
As the name of the movie suggests it’s the story of ‘Chaachaa and Bhateejaa’ who re-unite the family that had got separated thanks to a well hatched meticulous plan by a lady and her brother. The song under discussion takes place after the ‘Chaachaa’ (Shankar played by Dharmendra) accidentally (or by fortuitous coincidence as required by the Director 🙂 ) finds his Bhabhi (Indrani Mukherjee as Seeta) in a ‘basti’ and realizes that Sunder (Randhir Kapoor) is his nephew. Thus united now, they decide to oust the lady, her brother (played by Jeevan), and the lady’s son (Roopesh Kumar) out of the wealthy businessman’s (who is the brother of Shankar and father of Sunder, and Sita’s husband) Rehman’s life. So, Chaachaa and Bhateejaa first join them as ‘servants’ and soon they get an opportunity to perform this song-dance-music, as the ‘Qawwals’ who were supposed to be called for the ‘party’ are not available in the city. So the ‘chaachaa-bhateejaa’ are more than happy to take this responsibility of entertaining the ‘invitees’ as well as the audience. 🙂

Mohd Rafi and Shailendra Singh are the singers. Dharmendra and Randhir Kapoor lip-sync the song in their voices in that order. Lyrics are by Anand Bakshi and music is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. This song stood at number twenty-one in the ‘annual Binaca Geetmala episode of 1977’ so one can easily guess that this song was a well liked song of those days. This song is the third song from this movie ‘Chaachaa Bhateejaa-1977’ to appear on this blog.
