“Chandan Ka Palna”(1967) was produced by Zaibunnisa Usman Ali and Khairunnisa Ismail Memon and was directed by Ismail Memon for Aarzoo Films, Bombay. The movie had Dhamendra, Meena Kumari, Mehmood, Mumtaz, Durga Khote, Dhumal, Nazir Hussain, Bipin Gupta, Shabnam, Mukri etc in it.
This movie was basically an inhouse production of the family of Mehmood. Many family members of Mehmood were involved in the movie one way or the other. For example, one of the producer Zaibunnisa Usman Ali was his bhaabhi (wife of his younger brother Usman Ali). Other producer Khairunnisa Ismail Memon was Mehmood’s younger sister. The director Ismail Memon, married to producer Khairunnisa Ismail Memon was thus jeejaa jee of Mehmood. Meena Kumari, the heroine of the movie was Mehmood’s saali because Mehmood’s first wife Madhu was the sister of Meena Kumari. I thank Sadanand Kamath jee for giving us a detailed lowdown of all these family connections while covering one of the songs of this movie.
The movie had eight songs in it. Seven songs have been covered in the blog. Here are the details of the songs that have been covered so far:-

We observe that as many as six out of eight songs of the movie had got covered by 2016. The remaining two songs were also available but when I listened to these remaing songs, I realised that noting down their lyrics was going to be tough, and I could not muster enough motivation to cover them.
Recently, Mr Sadanand Kamath jee covered the seventh song, which also happened to be the song with the most challenging lyrics. In addition, the writeup of this song was extremely informativefor music lovers.
With the difficult part getting done, all I had to do was the cover the eighth and final song from the movie.
This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Manna Dey. The song is a song in a get together function. It is picturised on Mehmood and Mumtaz, whose roles in the movie are to provide comic side plot. Lead actors of the movie, viz Dharmendra and Meena Kumari are also seen in this get together song. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman. I guess that part of the song contains the voice of Mehmood as well. Or if that is Manna Dey, then it must be said that Manna Dey has imitated the voice of Mehmood remarkably well. The video of the song is more than six minutes long. The lyrics part ends at a little over 4 minutes. Remaining part consists of Mehmood and Mumtaz arbitrary playing various musical instruments. The song culminates in a rousing manner with Mehmmod playing the tune of a superhit old song that causes everyone to start dancing vigourously on this tune.
With this song, all the eight songs of “Chandan Ka Palna”(1967) get covered. The movie thus joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEED in the blog.
