Mukesh and his Co-Singers –13

My last post on Mukesh and his Actors – 04 featured Feroz Khan wherein, in the penultimate para of the post, I made a mention of taking up yet another popular actor for whom Mukesh gave playback. When I prepared the list, I was pleasantly surprised to find more than one song of the actor’s association with Mukesh is yet to be covered and hold your breath… including the last song that Mukesh sang before he left the country for a concert in August 1976 and never returned.
Well, the actor is Shashi Kapoor and unfortunately the post has to wait as it has run into some technical difficulties. One or two songs are available but there is no final confirmation if indeed they were featuring Shashi Kapoor on screen. Needless to say, video of the songs are difficult to trace and efforts are on to fetch them.
Alternatively, in this post, we take up Mukesh association with singer Kanchan in my other series, Mukesh and his co-singers.
The table on Feroz Khan featured two popular duets on singer Kanchan from Dharmatma and in an effort to trace all songs of the combo, I stumbled upon a duet from Paap aur Punya (1974) as the third and last song of the two singers to be featured on the blog.

If I am not mistaken, we do not have a detailed biographical post on singer Kanchan on the blog.
She married Babla who was the younger brother of composer duo Kalyanji-Anandji. Having initial sung a few songs for films mainly under the composition of his brothers, the husband-wife duo ventured more into the world of live shows and performances all over the world.
The wiki page on them is also a combined article detailing their life and career.
Kanchan’s most famous song in HFM is undoubtedly Laila main Laila from Qurbaani (1980). Her songs from other films like Dharmatma and Rafoo Chakkar both released in 1975 are also popular.
Coming to today’s duet of her with Mukesh, we have this film Paap Aur Punya (1974).
The star cast includes Shashi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, Aruna Irani, Asrani, Achla Sachdev, Indrani Mukerjee, Ajit and others.
It was produced by Shyam Sunder Shivdasani. The story, screenplay and direction is by Prayag Raaj.
The film composers are Kalyaniji Anandji assisted by their younger sibling Babla.
The costume designer for Shashi Kapoor in the film is Mrs. Shashi Kapoor. 😊
The film makes its debut on the blog with this duet. It has a total of 4 songs. Lata Mangeshkar and Kanchan have a solo and duet with Kishore Kumar and Mukesh respectively.
Even though the table of Mukesh’s association with Shashi Kapoor is almost ready, I am afraid the post itself has to wait for reasons mentioned above.
