Today’s song is from the movie ‘Jhoola-1941’. It was directed by Gyan Mukherjee for the famous ‘Bombay Talkies Ltd, Bombay’. It has Leela Chitnis, Ashok Kumar, Shah Nawaz, V. H. Desai, Mumtaz Ali, Karuna Devi, Shahzadi, Rajkumari Shukla, Meenu Kapoor, M.A. Aziz, Kazi, Master Lakshman, Leeladhar Sharma, Iqbal Bai, B.M. Dixit, Jyoti, Dulari, Nana Palsikar and others.
“Jhoola-1941” has eleven songs which were all written by Kavi Pradeep. Music for this movie was composed by Saraswati Devi. The playback singers for this movie were Leela Chitnis, Ashok Kumar, Rahmat Bano, Kavi Pradeep and Arun Kumar. Geet Kosh Vol-I mentions that the tunes were suggested by Kavi Pradeep for six songs and for one song the tune was suggested by Pannalal Ghosh.
Today’s song is one such song from this movie where the tune of the song has been suggested by Kavi Pradeep. The singers for this song are Leela Chitnis and Ashok Kumar. The voice of Ashok Kumar is there at the end of the song where he sings the mukhda of this song.
So far, six songs from this movie ‘Jhoola-1941’ have been posted on the blog earlier. (The list of songs for this movie in Geet Kosh does not include the song ‘ek chatur naar karkar singaar’ in the list). Today I am presenting the seventh song from this movie which is sung by Leela Chitnis and Ashok Kumar. (Geet Kosh doesn’t mention the name of Ashok Kumar as co-singer for this song).

PS: I have now noted that this movie has been made available on internet almost three years back. Interesting readers can watch this movie now. I have not yet watched this movie. But have watched the video of this song, and the picturisation of the song shows Leela Chitnis on the ‘swing’ singing this song. Ashok Kumar (as Postman) has just left the place after delivering a letter to Leela Chitnis. When he listens to the song, passing from there, he watches Leela Chitnis behind the trees and in the end sings the mukhda.
