Here is a song from the movie “Farmaish” (1953). This is the ‘T’ songs of A-Z of Rafi song series. This is a duet song composed by Huslal-Bhagatram and lyricist is Qamar Jalaalabadi. A duet with Shamshad Begum was so far missing in the series. So here is the promised duet, which is a light hearted romantic banter.

Today is the Death Anniversary of India’s most versatile singer Mohammed Rafi saab. Thanks to his evergreen songs, we still feel his presence amongst us. In last so many years India has not produced a single singer of Rafi’s calibre. One can not just say that those times were different and there was hardly any competition to him. Even in those days there was competition, but a healthy one. Artistes appreciated each others and conveyed their likings to the concerned artists, be it a role acting or a song or a tune. Even though for quite some time Kishore Kumar seemed to rule the industry, he was good enough to say that” Hum to bhai Barsaati mendhak hai. Barsaat khatam, hum khatam. Rafi saab jaise Timeless singer nahin hain hum.”

This is a comedy song from film NAGINA-51. The singers are Rafi and Shamshad. This was a Nutan- Nasir Khan film.
Sometime back I finished reading Nutan’s Biography, written by her close friend and noted journalist, Lalita Tamhane. The book is titled ‘ ASEN MEE…NASEN MEE ‘ (I may be…I may not be). Many interesting things which are not well known are mentioned in this book. I will try to describe a part of it, from Nutan’s early career, as I remember. Thanks to Lalita Tamhane-the copyright holder.

This is a song from film ‘Shair’ (1949). I am not sure if that is the correct name for this film. If the name is ‘Shaayar’ or ‘Shaayir’ than it will mean ‘the poet’. If it is ‘Shair’ than it is ‘a couplet’. Eight songs from this film have appeared in this blog. I was able to find only one Rafi song in this film which is luckily not posted.
