Today’s song is from the film Guru Ghantal-1956.
I remember there was another film of the same title made in 1937, starring the stunt Hero Navinchandra Joshi and Gohar Karnataki – sister of actress/singer Amirbai Karnataki. The other name of that film was ‘Shareef Badmash’. I was wondering as to what was the real meaning of ” Guru Ghantal”. When I tried to find out, I learnt that Guru Ghantal means a Cheater, a very cunning or extra clever person, who is not what he claims to be !

Today’s song is from the film Ghungroo-1952. The film was made by Filmkaar Ltd., Bombay. It was directed by Hiren Bose and the music was by C.Ramchandra. The cast of the film consisted of Omprakash, Sumitra Devi, Kuldeep kaur, K.N.Singh, Badri prashad and others.
During the early phase to the Golden era of Hindi film music, the atmosphere in the industry was very cordial. Everyone had the opportunity to grow in his field and there were no ill feelings either on religious basis or success/failure basis. In such a healthy atmosphere, few friendships between actors, directors, MDs and even producers grew deep. Today’s special post marks the 18400th song to be posted on the blog. It is being posted on 20th July 2024 which marks 52 years since the honey voiced Geeta Dutt left for her heavenly abode, too early at the age of just 41 years old leaving behind three children and a legacy that can never be forgotten by music lovers.
This post also marks her 1001st song to be posted on the group. We normally combine artists century songs with the blog’s century songs but we had erred in counting Geeta Dutt songs in the blog and She was already on 1000 songs. So this song is 1001st song of hers (sort of like a shagun) to mark the 18400th song on the blog.
Geeta Dutt is the fifth playback singer and 10th artist to complete 1000 songs in the blog. Lata, Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar are the other playback singers with 1000 plus songs in the blog. Names of producer, director, actors are not known. The number of songs in this movie is not known though it is known that the movie had at least four songs in it.

Today’s song is from an imaginary costume film ‘Son of Sindbad’ (1958).
Alibaba, Alladin and Sindbad were the popular characters during our school days. Not only books of their stories but also films made on them were the targets of all children in those days. It was a thrilling experience to get a book on one of these Heroes, as a gift on “Happy Birthday” ! I am not very sure if today’s young children read these stories. I doubt if they even know these names. These boys seem to favour Harry Potter stories, while the young girls are lost on reading Mills and Boon novels, I suppose ! The big fat book ‘Stories of Arabian Nights’ was the most sought after book (in spite of 5 copies) in our school library. Stories of Alibaba, Alladin, Sindbad the sailor, Hatimtai, Gul Bakavali etc enchanted us.
