Here is a tuneful duet of Noorjehan and Surendra from the 1944 ‘Bombay Cinetone’ film ‘Lal Haveli’. The other duet, by the same pair, from this film, will follow soon on this blog. (Hari ichchha permitting.) Naushad’s Guru Meer Saheb has set the tunes to the simple lyrics of Shams Lakhnavi.

After completing all Noorjehan’s songs from 1946 ‘Dil’, I march forward (In fact backward) to another block-buster musical film of the same year i.e. Anmol Ghadi. All her songs are covered on our blog. Now comes 1945. There were four films of our heroine during that year. There were four songs from 1945 film Bhaijaan, attributed to Noorjehan, but all except ‘chupke se dil mein …’ had Zeenat Begam’s voice on Columbia Records, according to HFGK. So, totally disappointed at not getting any Noorjehan’s song from that film, I look for the remaining three films of 1945.

I was searching for this song for long, as it was the only Noorjehan song from the 1946 ‘Dil’ that I had not in my ‘khajana’. I shouted on internet, hoping some music lover will come forward to help me. And pronto….. Our own Atul-ji, not only sent me the song, but also sent me the YouTube link where he had uploaded it. Soon, another Noorjehan fan and that too our own Vidur-ji sent me the MP3 song. So here I am with that song.

Looking back to the last two posted Noorjehan’s song, I feel sorry for HER that she does not have any ‘fans’ left now. With not a single comment there I could hear her painful calling her ‘fans’ “Aawaz de kahan hai?” I know the minority who liked ‘melodious and heart-touching songs, is on the verge of being ‘extinct’….. but so soon?
Any way following Geeta, (not the person but the scripture) I should continue ….. (Maa faleshu kadaachana …)
The song under discussion is a joyful song about the travel on the old time smoking train (another extinct object!) Moti’s voice is heard singing solo, duet and brief joyful ‘aalaaps’.

When you listen to this song from the 1946 Film ‘Dil’, you can actually feel the pain of a daughter, who is somehow separated from her dear father. I can offhand remember a similar feeling song from 1968 film ‘Aashirwad’ by Lata-ji, ‘Ek tha bachpan……’
