A wonderful gem of a duet from Hamdard (1953). This is such a wonderful classical jugalbandi, such a pleasure to listen with your eyes closed. It is almost a divine composition, a signature composition by Anil Da, with more than one raga blended seamlessly into a single flow. A virtuous melody, and a pleasure to listen to.

I have seen the movie Sautela Bhai (1962) many years ago on Doordarshan, and have remembered it for a very strong performance by Guru Dutt. It is a family drama, based on the story of two step brothers. Guru Dutt, the elder, is a responsible and values oriented person. The younger one is an irresponsible weakling, who has a bevy of crooked friends around him. The storyline moves on a very predictable track, with a happy ending.

They would share their experiences and play a few songs. This programme, to my mind, is one of the best ever radio programmes that one can think of. And what celebrities ! Almost all big names (with a few exceptions) presented Vishesh jaimala programmes those days.

Here is another gem of a song from the 1964 movie Hameer Hatth. This is a semi classical composition, rendered so well by Manna Dey. The composoition is by Sanmukh Babu Upadhyaya, and the beautiful lyrics in chaste Hindi, are by Neelkanthh Tiwari. The words are just beautiful, and need a careful listen.
