“Raajraani Damyanti”(1952) was produced by Mahipatrai Shah and Anoop Chand Shah and directed by Raje Nene for Roopkamal Chitra, Bombay. The movie had Nirupa Roy, Trilok Kapoor, Usha Kiran, Vikas, Baby Tabassum, Ratan Kumar, Prakash, Basant Kanse, Shakeela, Shakuntala, Uma Devi, Yashwant Dave, Ram Singh etc in it.

#the Decade of Forties – 1941 – 1950 #

The biggest festival of our country ‘Diwaalee’ is here and people all over, irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and class, are celebrating this festival. However, life is not the same for all (just like ‘kabhee dhoop kabhee chhaaon’). The migrant labors working away from homes and families wait whole year for this festival to visit their homes. Relatives of such peoples await them to celebrate the festival together. I too have gone through similar situations in my working life (But those details are not the part of this post today.)
Life is hard and life is not the same for all. For some it is a happy diwaalee and for some it might be ‘sad diwaalee’ too. Still, we have to keep our morale high and not give up hope.

Made by Super Pictures, it was directed by the owner of the banner, Aspy Irani. The MD was Premnath and the songs were written by Manohar Khanna (father of Music Director Usha Khanna), Neelkanth Tiwari and Ram Murthy. The cast included Surendra, Nirupa Roy, Trilok Kapoor, Usha kiran, Parshuram, Rajni, Ameerbai, Child artiste Master Vinod (who became a Hero in his adulthood, known as Vinod Mehra) and others.

Today’s song is from “one of a kind” of a film – Kinaara-1949.
This was a film made by New India Theatres, Bombay. It was directed by Ambalal Dave, for whom it was the only and the last individually directed film. Same year he had directed one more film jointly with Narayan Patel (another first and last timer) – Roop Sundari-1949. Not only this,but Madhusudan Acharya had written the film’s story, screenplay and dialogues too. He had acted in this film as a Hero and also sang one solo and one duet in the film. These again were the first and last time songs in any Hindi film. Now the readers will realise why I called this film “one of a kind’ film !

The first such film was ‘Roop Basant’, made in 1933 and the latest is ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ from 1993. As expected there were repetitions of the titles.
