Today’s song is a funny, ‘Anokhe Bol’ song from an iconic 86 year old film-Aadmi-1939.
The year was 1939 and the British Government had declared war against Germany and Japan, as soon as the WW II began. All countries ruled by Britain were – willingly or unwillingly, drawn into the war efforts and its effects. The war began in the month of September and soon various restrictions came into operation – like rationing, blackouts, shortages etc. The film industry which was still under its development stage suffered. It also realised the importance of remaining united as one industry. However, all that came after 1 or 2 years. In 1939 there was not much effect seen on the film industry.

Today’s song is from the film Manmohan-1936.
The film was made by Sagar Movietone. It was the 3rd film directed by Mehboob Khan. Music was by Ashok Ghosh, whose arranger was a young Anil Biswas, just arrived from Calcutta, on the motivation of Hiren Bose, the multitalented music director. Lyricist was Zia Sarhadi and the cast included Bibbo, Surendra, Yakub, Ashalata, Ram Marathe, Bhudo Advani, Zia Sarhadi and others.

Do you ever wonder, what happens to child stars when they grow up or what must be adult actors doing when they stop getting roles or get retired ? In the early years of films, anyone looking good and was a tolerably good singer could become actor or an actress. Education was not necessary. Working in films was not considered good those days. So, those who joined film line, in their early years, had no other skill or education. The payments were dismal, there was no guarantee of continuation and temptations were too many.
