As we get to the close of today, 8th Sep, I believe we should not let the day pass without remembering another great artist whose birth anniversary also falls today. The creator of such wonderful and popular melodies like “Do Naina Tumhaare Pyaare Pyaare” (‘Shrimati ji’, 1952), “Girengi Bijliyaan Kab Tak, Jalenge Aashiyaan Kab Tak” (‘Sultaan e Aalam’, 1956), and “Ye Zameen Hamaari Ye Aasmaan Hamaara”(‘Zameen Ke Taare’, 1960) S Mohinder is also the name behind the music of such films as ‘Paapi’ (1953), ‘Shirin Farhaad’ (1955), and ‘Naata’ (1955).

Two years, really. Life is so incessant, and so mindless in its pursuit of time. Riding on this train of time, it does not allow any halt or a breather. You are on it, and then one day you are not on it. That’s just it, the train continues to roll. The journey is dotted with countless interchanges, and so many wonderful people that we have known, have left this train, to take on a different journey. We know, we will never see them again. Although the past is always behind us and we can never ever get there. Still it continues to live in our minds. People will leave, never to return. But the memories – they are forever.

This is a soulful song from film Dil-E-Nadaan-1953,sung by Asha Bhosle,very effectively.

I know I have not been doing justice to Asha’s songs, for a long time now. It’s not that I dont like them, but somehow these songs almost never made it to my writings. Some of the solo songs of Asha, both Filmi and Non filmi are, in my opinion, any day better sung than Lata Mangeshkar !
