Suman Kalyanpur had a voice that sounded very similar to Lata, and that hurt her career. But having listened to lots of songs sung by Suman Kalyanpur, now I feel that I have become somewhat able to distinguish her voice from Lata’s voice.

As melancholic songs go, this song must be a strong title contender. “ham tum se juda hoke mar jaayenge ro ro ke” is such a well known song that it needs no introduction.

Manna Dey, with some exceptions, was not a mainsteam singer of choice. His voice was often used for bit actors and sometimes for lead actors too. Most of his songs were supposed to be there for light hearted fun. Yes, Manna Dey would be required to sing a semi classical song, which was supposed to be picturised in a light hearted way.

“Guide” (1965) was voted by Bollywood insiders ( music directors, lyricists, singers) as the movie with the best music among all Bollywood movies in history. It is no mean achievement, and it shows just how highly the music of this movie is regarded by the Bollywood music industry themselves.
