The popular Arabian Nights tale of “Alibaba” have inspired the creation of several Hindi movies. Tis blog features songs from three “Alibaba” movies that were released in 1940, 1954 and 1966.

Many of the songs that we discuss in this blog are those that we have heard in the past and we want to relive them and enjoy them again. There there is another kind of music, one that we may never have heard before for the simple reason that these songs did not become popular enough to get played on radio. With passage of time, these songs got buried under the sand of time, apparently for ever.

Many movies have been made in Bollywood on the story of Alibaba and forty thieves. The first such movie, that I am aware of, was made in 1954. It was a C grade movie and it had Mahipal and Shakila in lead roles.
