“Kan Kan Mein Bhagwaan” (1963) was a mythological movie, and as such movies went, it was a B grade movie. Few people remember this movie or its songs, but I find that the songs of this movie were as good as the music of any A grade movie.

I have repeatedly stressed the fact that there was nothing B grade about the music of these so called B and C grade movies. But as far as the public were concerned, the music of these movies would fail to catch up, mainly because of lack of exposure. Since most people would not watch these movies, they would not be aware of these songs, and the records of these songs would not be made and sold as a result of non popularity of these songs. So it was a catch 22 situation for the music of B grade movies.

What is the way to win a person over ? By treating him/ her well. Musically, it means making him/her listen to music that is soothing/ pleasing to the senses. Creators of music need not impress the listeners by their ability to create great music with impressive orchestra. The listeners gets impressed more when he gets so involved in the song that he begins to visualise the imagery alluded to in the song.

“Kavi Kalidas” (1959) was a movie that was not a mainstream movie, rather the so called B grade movie. These were low budget movies whose subjects were often mythology . This particular movie, as its name suggests was the tale of the great Sanskrit poet Kalidas.
