“Aath Din” aka “Eight Days” (1946) was directed by Dattaram N Pai for Filmistan Limited, Bombay. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Veera, S L Puri, Rama Sukul, Mohsin, Upendranath Ashq, Mehdi Ali Khan, Agha Jaan, Shree Bhagwan, Leela Mishra, Sunalini Devi, Sunetra, Noorjahaan Banu etc in it.

Since yesterday, I was looking for a song from Qaatil (1960), whose link was proving elusive, though other songs from the film are available on youtube. While looking for the song from I stumbled upon another duet which is in line this series of ‘nainon se nain milaa ke’.

Ah, finally. I have with me now, the song from the 1946 film ‘Durbaan’ that has been eluding me so far. Graciously and thankfully sent to me by another collector friend. Readers will recall that this is the one song from 1946, still waiting to be posted, as we traverse the early years of Mukesh’s career. As per records, by the end of 1946, Mukesh had sung 21 songs in eleven films (starting from 1941).

Hindi film music became people oriented, in the real sense, from Khazanchi-1941. Till then HFM was ,as if, in the clutches of Classical and stage music.

The begining of the Fifth decade of the 20th century was a revolutionary period for Film Industry. Mehboob, Kardar, K.Asif, V.Shantaram, Filmistan etc established their own studios and started producing meaningful cinemas. It also brought a new dimension to film music. This decade showed that Good Music, on its own, can make a film successful at the box-office, irrespective of other factors like cast, plot etc.
