Though most songs in Bollywood movies are based on desi values, there are “westernised” songs in Bollywood as well. They are mainly songs which are sung in clubs/ parties, and are often accompanied by dance, either by someone like Helen, or a party dance where several people are seen dancing “phoren” style.

“Patanga” (1949) had that iconic song “Mere piya gaye Rangoon wahaan se kiya hai telephoon”. It is perhaps the only song from this movie that is known to most people.

Though Kishore Kumar had made his singing debut in “Ziddi”(1948) three years ago under the music direction of Khemchand Prakash, it was in 1950s that he was taken by S D Burman under his wings. It was then that Kishore Kumar developed his unique singing style.
