Shamim (also known as Shamim Bano and Shamim Kamal Pasha) was one of the female actors who was active in the 40s as a heroine/side heroine. She was the niece of Khursheed Bano, one of the top singer-actor of the 40s. I was not aware of Shamim until I found her name mentioned in Kidar Sharma’s autobiography ‘The One and Lonely Kidar Sharma’. There is a trivia mentioned in this book about selecting Shamim as the heroine of the film ‘Armaan’ (1942). Kidar Sharma insisted that Motilal and Shamim would be his hero and heroine for the film. Here is a another duet, which is rare in the sense few people might have heard it. It is from a film called “Fariyaad” (1964). A few songs from this film are posted in the blog. This music of this film is composed by Snehal Bhatkar, and this song is written by Kedar Sharma. As I see in the list of songs moviewise three songs are already posted. So this is the fourth song to be posted. Another duet “Apne huzoor mujhe kya se kya banaa diyaa” was posted a few days ago (Post by Sadanand Kamathji).

FARIYAAD (1964) was produced and directed by Kidar Sharma under the banner of Show People. Ashok Sharma ( son of Kidar Sharma) and Zeb Rahman (also known as Preetibala) were in the lead roles with Ashok Kumar, Achala Sachdev, Dilip Dutt and Tuntun in the supporting roles. I remember to have read the reports in some of the film magazines at that time about propping up of Preetibala (Zeb Rahman) as another Madhubala in the making taking advantage of the resemblance of her face with that of Madhubala.

As obscure movies go, this has to be among the more obscure ones. The movie is called “Fariyaad”(1964) and it had unknown names like Ashok, Zeb Rahman, Shabaani, Gyaani etc. I do not think too many people would have watched this movie or would even be aware of this movie even when it was released.
