Din ba din wo mere dil se

on:Movies can be on many topics and it is not necessary that they should all be made on the prevalent mainstream subject of that era. But this fact was not known to movie goers or even to movie critics in the past decades. People would go to the movie hall with pre conceived notions of what the movie should be like and they would be disappointed if the movie had a different story line. There were Amitabh Bachchan movies in late 1970s and late 1980s where movie goers went expecting a dhishum dhishum fare but were extremelyt disappointed on finding that the movie had no fight scenes, and worse, Amitabh Bachchan was shown as a mortal rather than one who could singlehandedly taken on lots of baddies.
I had gone to watch “Trishna” (1978) with some preconceived notions too, and I was disappointed.
Now, more than 36 years later, with the benefit of maturity (hopefully) and some understanding of terms like choices, market segmentation etc, I realise than every movie cannot be and should not be a mainstream movie. There could me movies of non mainstream topics too, meant for their target audience. “Trishna” (1978) was not a movie meant for a teenage movie goer like me, just as “Zindagi Zindagi” (1972) was not meant for a then pre teen age me.
“Trishna” (1978) was a G P Sippy Production movie. No, it was not a sequel to “Sholay” (1978), rather it was a quicky movie which dealtwith the “mundane” topic of the relations between a married couple. The movie was directed by Anil Ganguly and it had Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Rakhee Gulzar,Bindu, Sujit Kumar,Dinesh Hingoo, Master Rajoo Shreshtha, Preeti Ganguly, Minoo Chitnis,Preetam, Adi Irani, Billimoria, M.Hanief,Vikrant(Romeo), Raza Murad, Aziz Nazaan, Uma Dhawan, Jayashree T,Dwarka Divecha etc in it. Raakhi, the housewife finds Sanjeev Kumar, her husband busy in his work and showing no interest in interacting with her and this results into marital disharmony between the two. The movie deals with this subject.
If I had to watch this movie again, I will appreciate the movie better and its music better as well.
Today (14 september) is the birth anniversary of G P Sippy. On this occasion, here is the theme cum title song of “Trishna”(1978). The last time I heard this song was in a movie hall 36 years ago and I had naturally failed to take much notice of this song then.
When I heard this song again , I liked this song and found it a wonderful song to listen to. That is because now I can see this movie and this song from a different and more mature perspective.
Here is this nice song from “Trishna” (1978) which failed to become popular. But it is not necessary that only popular songs are worth listening to. We in this blog regularly discover forgotten gems and find them wonderful songs to listen to. This song is one such song and it deseves to be known better among music lovers.
The song is sung by Lata. The picturisation shows Rakhi on the backseat of a car reminiscing about her life as this song gets played in the background. Anjaan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)
din ba din woh mere dil se
din ba din woh mere dil se
kyun door door hone lage
mere armaan
mere sapne
kyun choor choor hone lage
din ba din woh mere dil se
phoolon se thhi
sajee sajee
kal ki woh zindagi
phoolon se thhi
sajee sajee
kal ki woh zindagi
aayenge kyaa na lautkar
guzre woh din kabhi
guzre woh din kabhi
kyaa uttha dhuaan
mere do jahaan
kyaa uttha dhuaan
mere do jahaan
kaise be-noor hone lage
din ba din woh mere dil ke
palkon pe hai
rukaa rukaa
ashqon kaa kaarwaan
palkon pe hai
rukaa rukaa
ashqon kaa kaarwaan
barsee ghataa toh choomkar
trishnaa bujhee kahaan
trishnaa bujhee kahaan
zindagi tujhe
aisse bhi situm
zindagi tujhe
aisse bhi situm
kaise manzoor hone lage
din ba din woh mere dil se
kyun door door hone lage
din ba din woh mere dil se
