Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 69
———————————————————————————–
Ten years ago, the blog was covering six songs every day and seven songs every fourth day. So I was a bit surprised to note that “only” five songs were covered on 3 September 2010. But there awsa very good reasohn for that, which will become clear during our discussion here.
Here is the list of the five songs that were covered on 3n september 2010:-
| Blog post no | Song | Movie-Year | remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2896 | Ab to aa jaao balam | Poonam 1952 | YIPPEED |
| 2897 | Kaare badraa tu na jaa na jaa | Shikast 1953 | YIPPEED |
| 2898 | Ye jawaani ye haseen raat Khuda khair kare | Khoobsoorat Dhokha 1959 | 4 Songs discussed out of 7 |
| 2899 | Saamne ye kaun aayaa dil mein huyi halchal | Jawaani Deewaani 1972 | YIPPEED |
| 2900 | Kyaa huaa teraa waadaa wo qasam wo iraadaa | Hum Kisise Kam Nahin 1977 | Blog century post. 7 songs discussed (out of 9) |
We can see from the above that three out of five movies that were taken up on 3 september 2010 have got YIPPEED in the bblog by now. So that leaves us with just two movies that are eligible for “Blog Ten Year CHallenge” today (3 September 2020).

Today’s song is from film Hum kisi se kam nahin-77, made under the banner of Nasir Hussain films.
This is the 3rd consecutive song from the 70s that I am discussing. Do not wonder whether I have shifted sides- from writing on films of 30s and 40s to the 70s. Possibly, for the time being, this is the last one from this period. Actually, I have nothing against the musical or film aspect of the period 70s and beyond. It is only that, mostly they are not of my likings. Of course, I have always said that , ” Everything that was made before 70s was not all good, as much as everything made after 70s was not bad either.”

So we reach the alphabet ‘H’ in this series of A to Z of Rafi songs. There are around 350 songs beginning with ‘H’ in the excel sheets listing Rafi sahab’s songs. At a guess, some 125 songs beginning with this alphabet are already posted in the blog. Among the remaining songs, I have zoomed in on this qawwali from ‘Ham kisi se kam nahin’. As far as this series is concerned, this will be the second song from this movie from 1977. Now, I have many reasons for choosing again a song from this film after ‘chaand mera dil chandni ho tum ‘.

My last few posts have been about songs of the 1970s. As I’ve explained before, this is only because I find it easier to talk about that decade. Some golden-era film and music lovers may even like to call it the decadent decade 😉 – and they would not be entirely wrong, in my opinion.

I had stumbled onto Atul’s admirable effort a few months ago when I was looking for the lyrics of “Aaj pahli tarikh hai” for a non-film piece for my own blog. After I posted the piece, I sent the link to Atul who not only read that piece, but also several others on my blog. He has been prompt -and generous- with his comments. Over time we had sporadic email exchanges. We discovered that not only we had a common interest (Hindi film songs) but also our backgrounds; similar age, similar geography (he from Ranchi and I from Jamshedpur; both in Jharkhand) and both from middle-class families.
