I have not kept a count of it, but I think I have posted songs from most Shammi Kapoor movies in this blog. Considering that Shammi Kapoor came into his own in 1957 with “Tumsa Nahin Dekhaa” (1957) and continued till late 1960s with the kind of movies with he is identified, he may have worked in about 20 odd typically Shammi Kapoor movies. I have posted songs from almost all these movies, in addition to posting songs from other Shammi Kapoor movies where he played other kinds of roles.

I had neither heard of this movie called “Neelam Pari” (1952) nor its songs till today. I heard this song for the first time just now and I decided that I needed to post this song in the blog.

Aayi aayi raat suhaani

Here is a delightful song that has two versions. In the first version, Kamini Kaushal, who finds a young girl, who is separated from her mother, and she calms her nerves by singing this song which acts as a lullaby to the girl.

In Hindi movies we often seen family album masquerading as a movie (viz the movie “Kal Aaj Aur Kal”), or a wedding album masquerading as a movie (” Hum Apke Hai Kaun”). Likewise they was a world tour album that masqueraded as a Hindi movie. This movie was called “Around the world in eight days”, which was shortened to “Around the world”.

This song is not your regular boy meeting the girl and running around the trees song. That stage is over, at least as far as Rajendranath and Madhavi are concerned. Yes, they have got married and this song takes place on the occasion of their wedding reception.

Dil meraa naache thunak thunak

There are several Hindi movies with grand sounding titles, but here is a very homely kind of a title for a movie. It is called “Mera Ghar Mere Bachche” (1960), which means “My home and my kids”. How very plebian !
