Today’s song is from the film Mehndi-1958.

In the year 1899, a famous writer of those times-Mirza Hadi ‘Ruswa’ wrote a novel “Umrao Jaan Ada” on the life and times of a famous Tawaif and poet of Lucknow. There is a dispute whether it was a real or a fictitious character. There have been arguments on both sides giving questionable bits of evidence. Whatever it was, the novel attracted attention of the public and the critics over the next few decades.

The famous Alfred Drama Company of the early 20th century, made it into a drama and it too became popular. Hullo Atuldom

Today is the birth anniversary (100th) of the legendary filmmaker, actor, choreographer of the 1950s & early ’60s. I found this article in today’s Times Of India.

As I was writing my previous post on Guru Dutt I came across this article on the internet. It spoke of K. Asif’s magnum opus “Love And God” which initially had Guru Dutt playing Qais (Majnu). But the movie halted with the death of the actor in 1964.

After a while K Asif revived “Love and God”; this time with Sanjeev Kumar playing Majnu (Qais). Nimmi was still Laila. The film again came to a halt with the passing of K. Asif in 1971, the film was about 70% complete.

It is my recent resolution to post as many Sajjad Hussain songs as I can find. Considering that Sajjad Hussain composed approximately one hundred songs and I have so far discussed 19 songs composed by Sajjad Hussain, it should take me nearly three months to cover the remaining Sajjad Hussain songs not yet discussed. In other words, I hope to cover all the Sajjad Hussain compositions by the time this year 2010 comes to a close.
