“Naunihaal” (1967) was a movie that did not do well at the box office. This movie had a few nice songs in it, though. After all, it has Madan Mohan as the music director.

Madan Mohan is known for his outstanding songs that were sung by Lata. But it is not as if he has created such songs only with Lata. He has had some memorable songs with other female singers as well. In fact, if one looks at all his songs in 1950s , then one of the most memorable song sung for him by a female singer in that decade could well turn out to be a song sung by Geeta Dutt.

“Pocket Maar” (1956) was a movie starring Dev Anand and Geeta Bali. This movie had music by Madan Mohan. And that means one can expect some fine songs in this movie. And that is exactly what turns out to be the case.

In 1950s, there used to be movies named after important landmarks viz “Laal Quila’,”Chandni Chowk”etc. In this series, there was one movie called “Gateway of India” (1957).

I have posted two songs from “Aashiana”(1952) in ther past. One was a Lata song ( mere piya se koi jaake) and other was a Talat Mahmood song (main paagal mera manwaa paagal). Both these songs are superb memorable songs.

Most of Madan Mohan movies were made by struggling movie makers with lesser known actors. In some cases, Madan Mohan worked with bigger names too, but that was either before these people actually became stars ( viz Amitabh Bachchan in “Parwana”) or after they had run their courses ( viz Dev Anand in “Sahib Bahadur”). The first movie where Madan Mohan got to work with big name actors was in “Madhosh” (1952) which had Raj Kapoor and Nargis. Unfortunately this movie did not do well at the box office.
