Today’s song is from an obscure film Vakil Saheb-1943.

The second world war started in 1939 and ended in 1945. The effects of wartime started being felt to people in the world, whether involved or not in the war. Shortages of essentials due to transport restrictions and Petrol shortages were acute when the war continued unabated and spread to almost every part of the world. Major powers like England , Japan, Europe, Russia and America dragged countries which were under their rule or influence and those who were friendly to them. This included India too.

Today’s song is from a very old film of the 30s decade, ” Industrial India”-38. This is the first song from this film which makes its debut on the Blog.

When the Talkie films started in India, the enthusiasm of the film makers was such that they went on making a large number of films. In the first 10 years ( 1931 to 1940) of Talkie, a total of 924 Hindi films were made, an average of 92 films per year. This created a shortage of stories and film titles. The stories were made on same subjects and even in film titles, we find that some special words were used repeatedly for films. Here, I am not talking about common words like Tere, Mere, Shri, Bhakt, Alibaba, Allaudin, Aurat, Maa etc etc.

“Badalti Duniya” (1943) was directed by Mohan Sinha for Murari Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Mumtaz Shanti, Trilok Kapoor, K C Dey, Rajkumari Shukla, Badri Prasad, Shahzaadi etc in it.

Timir Baran (10 july 1904- 28 march 1987) was a pioneer of Indian movie music. He was one of those who brought Indian movie music out of the influence of theatre music and enabled it to acquire its own distinct identity. He was a classically trained musician. Trained under Ustad Allauddin Khan of Maihar Gharana, Timir Bran was an expert in playing Sarod, Clarinet and banjo.

“Badalti Duniya” (1943) was a Murari Pictures production. It was directed by Mohan Sinha. The movie had Trilok Kapoor, Mumtaz Shanti, K C Dey, Rajkumari Shukla ( actress, who is different from the singer Rajkumari Dubey, who sang in this movie), Badri Prasad, Shahzaadi, Waskar etc. in it.
