I throught that the movie have about five or six songs in it. “Mother India” (1957) was produced and directed by Mehboob Khan. The movie had Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, Chanchal, Kanhaiyalal, Jilloo Maa, Kumkum, Sheela Naik, Mukri, Ram Shastri etc in it.

“Mother India” (1957) was a movie that was released before I was born. So this movie is from an era before my time. I first watched this movie in late 1970s in its nth re run in a dilapidated movie hall. Moreover I was not much into old movies in those days and I went to watch this movie so that I may be able to say that I had seen this movie. 🙂

Today(25th may) happens to be the seventh death anniversary of Sunil Dutt (6 june 1929-25 may 2005). Born Balraj Dutt, Sunil Dutt was one of the earliest Radio Ceylon announcers before he got his break in Hindi movies in “Railway Platform” (1955).

Though I am aware of most songs from “Mother India” (1957), I was just not aware about this song from the movie. In fact, I was not aware that Manna Dey had sung a song in this movie.
