I did not have much idea about the film ‘Mehmaan’ (1953) except its star cast. But I have been mesmerised by its 8 melodious songs, two of which have so far been covered in the Blog. The film was directed by Ramanand Sagar, his first film as a director. The star cast included Premnath, Nimmi, Sajjan, Purnima, Radhakishan, Bikram Kapoor, Harish, Mumtaz Begum etc. With Nimmi in the lead role, one would expect a lot of melodrama, sufferings, unexpected twists in the love story etc.

I am writing this article only because I felt that the song which I listened to today after a gap of over 45 years deserves to be represented in the Blog. In fact, I am wondering how this song escaped my attention for this long. I am equally surprised at the fact that this song has managed to stay un discussed in the Blog till now.

I came to know about the film NIRMOHI (1952) sometime in the late 1960s when my friend and office colleague, Vijay Nafde introduced me to his 78 RPM record collections. During our periodic get together in his house, he used to make me listen to some rare songs (of that time) and that included songs from unheard films for which music directors like C Ramchandra, Madan Mohan, Roshan etc composed the songs. ‘Nirmohi’ (1952) was one of those unheard films from which I remember to have listened the only song, dukhiyaare naina dhoondhen piyaa ko .

Today (14 july 2015) is the 40th death anniversary of Madan Mohan (25 june 1924- 14 july 1975). On this occasion, we are paying tributes to Madan Mohan by discussing a few of his (as yet undiscussed) songs.

Loot liyaa haay loot liyaa

I am aware of an obscure movie called “Mehmaan” (1974). As it turns out, there is an equally obscure movie called “Mehmaan” (1953) too. This movie had Premnath and Nimmi in lead roles.
