“Parwaanaa” (1947) is a movie which had K L Saigal, the then reigning K L Saigal acting opposite the then rising star Suraiyya. And both of them had sung their own songs, of course.

Suraiyya, who made her debut in Hindi movies as a child artist in 1942, began to get the roles of heroines from 1946 onwards. In “Parwaanaa” (1947), she got to act opposite K L Saigal, then the reigning superstar of the time.

Madan Mohan is often associated with serious ghazal songs sung by Lata. But Madan Mohan has composed all kinds of songs including light hearted and non serious songs sung by several singers. In fact, the Madan Mohan song that climbed the highest in Binaca Geetmala annual charts in his lifetime was not a ghazal by Lata but a mela song by Asha Bhonsle. It was the hugely popular Jhumka gira re Bareli ke bazaar me from “Mera Saayaa” (1966).
