Aaja baalmaa rain andheri dar laage

Posted on: February 21, 2011

Suraiyya, who made her debut in Hindi movies as a child artist in 1942, began to get the roles of heroines from 1946 onwards. In “Parwaanaa” (1947), she got to act opposite K L Saigal, then the reigning superstar of the time.

Here is a song from “Parwaanaa” (1946) which is sung by Suraiyya and which is picturised on herself. The song is written by D N Madhok. Khursheed Anwar is the music director.

Thanks for giving this rare song. This song reminds me very strongly of Naushad and Zohra Ambalewali in Rattan (1944). Was it conscious imitation? Rattan had catapulted Naushad to stratosphere. Incidentally DN Madhok being the lyricist is a common link. To be fair to Khursheed Anwar, other songs in Parwana by Suraiya and KL saigal do not have this trace. Incidentally he was among some top composers who had roots in Lahore who migrated to Pakistan after partition. I guess this was his last film.
