Yearwise discussion of Lata Mangeshkar songs in HFM: Part X: Year 1956
———————————————————————————————————

No we have reached part ten of this ambitious series. Lata Mangeshkar sang her first Hindi film songs in 1946. She sang just four songs that year and 5 songs the next year. By the time she completed one decade of her career, she had already sung more than one thousand songs in HFM, becoming the first playback singer to achieve this feat.

1956 was the eleventh year of Lata Mangeshkar as a playback singer in Hindi movies. In other words she entered the second decade of her HFM career this year. If she had sung 4 songs in 3 movies in 1946, 1956 saw her singing a whopping 204 songs in 49 movies.

Today’s song is from a film with an unusual story-Ferry-1954.

The story of the film was written by Dhruv Chatterjee, dialogues were by Akhtar Ul Imaan and the screenplay was done by the Producer and Director of the film – Hemen Gupta. His entire family was involved in this film. Wife Ratna Gupta sang a song in the film and his daughter Baby Bula acted in the film. This Baby Bula became Archana, when she grew up to be a Heroine in her debut film Umang-70. Next film was Buddha Mil Gaya-71 and her third and last film was Anokha Daan-72. After this she left films, married her classmate Yogesh Motwani and settled in life. For some time, she was doing Fabric business also.

Hullo Atuldom

Some songs keep playing in our mind as if on loop. This I had said in one of my previous posts. Today’s song is one such.

Recently,(12th of July’2020 to be precise) the blog saw the 5000th song from the decade 1951-1960 covered on the blog.

This ‘melodious decade’ has around ten thousand songs (as per HFGK) and if we look from that point of view we are just at the ‘half-way mark’ (or little above now as the songs are getting added frequently to this decade, thanks to the collaboration of our team members and also because of projects like Blog Ten Year Challenge.
