As the title suggests, this movie had Joy Mukherjee in double role. One is Chinese and other in Indian. 🙂 Mala Sinha is the love interest of the Chinese Joy Mukherji while Sharmila Tagore plays the love interest of Indian Joy Mukherji.

“Saawan Ki Ghataa” (1966) was a movie directed by Shakti Samant. I find that the screenplay of this movie was written by Gulshan Nanda, the leading Hindi novelist of those days. So it leads me to think that this movie could well be based on a novel by Gulshan Nanda. Incedentally, movies like “Kati Patang”, Jheel Ke Us paar” etc are some of the movies based on Gulshan Nanda’s novels.

O P Nayyar was at the peak of his musical and professional prowess in 1950s. By 1960s, he was on the decline. But even then, he continued to create some sublime music till late into 1960s. I in fact feel that his compositions are arguably of better quality, even if they did not become as popular as his compositions of 1950s.

I just realised two facts. One fact is that the hair of leading ladies in Hindi movies play an important part in Hindi movies, especially in songs. when the Hero needs to sing a song in praise of her, what are the things about her that he can mention? He will sing about her face- likening it to Chaand(Moon), he will sing about her eyes, likening them to deep lakes. Another important body part that find much mention in the paens that hero sings for the lady are her hairs, which are called “zulf” in Hindi song parlance and they are often likened to Ghata (viz black rain bearing clouds). Heroine being compared to moon, lakes, cloud ! Hindi movie lyricists must have paid enough attention in their geography classes, it would seem to me, at least when these geographical topics were being discussed.

“Bahaarein Phir Bhi Aayengi” (1966) is a movie that had Mala Sinha, Dharmendra and Tanuja in lead roles. As far as I am concerned, I know this song only for its title song (Badal jaaye agar maali…bahaarein phir bhi aayengi (Bahaarein Phir Bhi Aayengi ) ) which is so inspirational to listen to.

I have discussed songs that are stage songs as well as songs that are mujra songs. Here is an interesting song that combines the two. Yes, this song is a stage mujra song. In other words, this song is a stage song where a mujra is presented after the curtain opens.
