Today’s song is a duet from the religious film Tulsidas-1954.
The film was directed by B.C.Shukla and Harsukh Bhatt.
Harsukh Bhatt (24-11-2024 to 31-10-1999) was the younger brother of Vijay Bhatt of Prakash Pictures. Shukla and Harsukh had also directed one more film, Naulakha Haar-1953. Independently, Harsukh had directed 13 more films. He started his career as a director with the film Bal Yogi-1952 and his last film was Gayatri Mahima-1977. The music was by the king of melody, Chitragupt and the lyricist was G.S.Nepali. The cast of the film was Mahipal, Shyama, Dulari, Sunder, Raaj Kumar, Chaman Puri Ramji, Uma Dutt, Sitaram and many more.

This is a Bhajan from film Tulsidas-54. There have been many films on Tulsidas. Sant Tulsidas was first produced in 1934, then in 1939 and then in 1972. The same topic with title Tulsidas was in films in 1954 and 19991.

We Indians are known to be inquisitive about the personal lives of others, more so in the semi-urban and rural settings. Historically, this trait may have come from community living in hamlets where there were closer ties with families through interactions. This also helped in keeping abreast with what was happening around them. Inquisitiveness is not confined to India alone. It has also been observed in other developed countries, though to a lesser extent. I have personally experienced it in a couple of European countries.

When Dhundiraj Govind Phalke aka Dadasaheb Phalke(1890-1944), the father of Indian Cinema, made his/India’s first silent feature film,” Raja Harishchandra”-1913, he introduced the Genre of Mythological films in our country. It is well known that he was inspired by the English film ” The life of Christ”. He decided to bring to the screen Indian Gods and stories associated with them.

The second song in the series “Great souls of India” is from film TULSIDAS-1954. It is sung by Mohd.Rafi and this song was quite popular in those days. I have enjoyed it many times on Radio too.
