#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 129 # A tribute to Parveen Babi #
——————————————-—-

Today 4th April 2021 is the sixty-seventh birth anniversary of actress Parveen Babi(04.04.1954 – 20.01.2005). She would have been sixty-six years old today had she been alive. She left this world at the age of fifty-one years old only on 20th January’2005.

She started her career in Hindi Films with the movie ‘Dhuen Ki Lakeer-1974’ though her movie ‘Charitra-1973’ was released earlier before ‘Dhuen Ki Lakeer’. She went on to act in many movies with leading actors of the ‘seventies’ and was held successful actress like other leading heroines of those years.
I am not going into her detailed biography and filmography in this article. I leave it for another article in the future. But I would like to mention here that I do not remember a single movie of Parveen Babi that I watched and had not liked her presence on the screen 😊 The memories of those movies are unforgettable.

In this article today I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Aahutee (or Aahuti)-1978’. This a ‘beautiful reminder’ of those years was played on ‘Vividh Bharati’ couple of weeks back. As I listened to it, I find this song familiar but I had forgotten the movie name. Later on, I checked and found the movie name and I remembered to have watched this movie with my brothers and cousins in the summer vacations of that year ‘1978’. I do not remember the movie now, but I remember that it was story of ‘three brothers.’ In those years all such movies having stories woven around ‘three brothers’ and ‘lost and found’ stories would easily attract me and my younger brothers as we were three siblings (all males) to our parents. ‘Aahuti’ was one such movie among many others that used to be produced in those ‘multi-starrer’ days. This movie had couple of songs which brings back memories for me.

‘Aahuti’ was directed by Ashok Bhushan for ‘Basho Productions, Bombay’. It had Rajendra Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi, Rakesh Roshan, Zaheera, Asha Sachdev, Kamini Kaushal, Ajit, Madan Puri, Paintal, Krishan Dhawan, Raj Mehra, Kuljeet, Dulari, Birbal, Rajan Kapoor, Ranjana Sachdev, Preeti Ganguly, Ranbeer Raj, Pal Sharma, Darshan Arora, Dharmveer, Master Romi, Master Rajesh, Master Ravi and others.

Pradeep Kumar makes a ‘special appearance’ in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 25.04.1978.

This movie had six songs penned by Anand Bakshi and composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Following is the list of songs this movie had;

S.No. Song Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Is duniya mein kaun sawaare sab ke bigde kaam (Part-1) Mahendra Kapoor, Anuradha Paudwal, chorus
02 Is duniya mein kaun sawaare sab ke bigde kaam (Part-2) Kishore Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor, Manhar, chorus
03 Kaash aisaa hota Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, chorus 04.08.2016
04 Saathi mere saathi rut aati jaati Mohd Rafi, Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar, chorus 22.07.2018
05 Naukri sau ki hazaar ki Kishore Kumar, Anuradha Paudwal, chorus
06 Jugni ik ladki ka naam Lata Mangeshkar, chorus Being discussed today

Only two songs from the above have been earlier posted on the blog.

As I mentioned above, two songs from this movie which brings back memories for me are ‘Is duniya mein kaun sawaare sab ke bigde kaam’ and ‘Naukri sau ki hazaar ki’, the later one has been shared long back but yet to be posted.

Today’s song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and chorus and on screen it is performed by Parveen Babi and many other female artists. Also seen in the picturization of this song are Shashi Kapoor, Krishan Dhawan and others. Today’s song is beautiful reminder of the ‘Parveen Babi’ days at the box office. And what to say about Lata Mangeshkar’s singing? … just listen and enjoy this song 😊

The situation hen this song takes place can be guessed by any one after watching this song (an archtypical song situation of those years) 😊

let us now listen and enjoy today’s song based on Punjabi folk music composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal …

Our tributes to Parveen Babi!

“Dhuen Ki Lakeer-1974” was directed by Kishore Sahu for ‘Rupanjali Productions Ltd, Bombay’. It had Parveen Babi, Ramesh Arora, Dinu Harish, Preeti Ganguly (all four making their debuts in Hindi Cinema), Aatm Prakash, Urmila Bhatt, Pinchoo Kapoor, Lalita Kumari, Major Sudan, Montu, Malini Bhatia, Uma Dutt, Ashalata, Ved Sharma, Khalid, Rajkumar and others.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 21.07.1974.

“Dhuen Ki Lakeer-1974” had four songs as listed below;

S.No. Song Title Singer Lyricist Posted On
01 Daur wah aa gayaa dil ke armaan beekey Mohd Rafi Saajan Dehalvi

03 Teri jheel si gehri aankhon mein Nitin Mukesh, Vani Jairam Rameshwar Tyagi 18.01.2009
04 Ek shamaa jaley kahaan Ajit Singh, Krishna Kalle Khalish Dehalvi Being discussed today

It can be seen in above table three lyricist contributed four songs in this movie. Music for this movie was composed by Shamji Ghanshamji who also making his debut as music director with this movie.

I think this was an obscure movie of its time though I am aware of one song from this movie i.e., ‘teri jheel si gehri aankhon mein’ (I vaguely remember to have heard this song on a rainy night on radio in my childhood days and since then I have never forgotten it 😊 ). Also, this song seems to be the only known song from this movie.

Today 20th January 2021 is the ‘sixteenth remembrance anniversary’ (04.04.1954 – 20.01.2005) of one of the beautiful actresses of the seventies Parveen Babi. I have watched many of her movies and liked her performance in all of them. I am going to list all her movies and I leave it for yet another post in the future on her.

On this occasion here is a song from this movie ‘Dhuen Ki Lakeer-1974’. This movie had made its debut on the blog on 18.01.2009. Since that day, 4385 days have passed while this movie is represented in the blog with just this one song i the blog.

Today’s song is sung by Ajit Singh and Krishna Kalle and on screen it is performed by Ramesh Arora and Parveen Babi respectively.

Pinchoo Kapoor, Urmila Bhatt and many others can also be seen in the picturization of this song.

Hullo Atuldom

Happy Gokulashtami to all followers of this blog.

Yesterday we had a song which should have been categorised under “How come this has not been posted as yet?” The song with this post can also fall under the same category.
It is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar, written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and Rajesh Roshan is the music composer. It is from the 1982 Ravi Tandon directed “Khuddar”.

This song depicts the ‘dahi-handi’ aspect of Gokulashtami. ‘Dahi-Handi’ draws inspiration from the antics of Lord Krishna or Balgopal who was rather mischievous and used to stealthily enter homes in Gokul and eat up freshly churned Dahi (curds or yogurt in modern parlance) and Makhan (butter). That is why one of his names is Maakhanchor. There is a lot of stories attached with the ‘leela’ of Balkrishna:- how the ladies of Gokul go complaining to Yashoda maa about Balkrishna eating away their dahi and makhan and how he used to say “Maiyya mori main nahin maakhan khaayo”. We have three versions of this song from movies made in 1959, 1977, and the version whose link I have given here was the first ever that came in 1942.

“Mach gayaa shor saari nagari” has Amitabh Bachchan making the human-pyramid and Parveen Babi in typical Maharastrian attire is out there either distracting him or encouraging him (don’t remember). We can see Vinod Mehra, A K Hangal enjoying the proceedings from the verandah of their chawl. Madhu Malini (permanent sister in many movies) walks in halfway through the song.

Song-Mach gaya shor saari nagri re (Khuddaar)(1982) Singers-Kishore Kumar, Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Rajesh Roshan
Chorus

Lyrics

mach gaya shor saari nagri re
saari nagri re
aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re
ho oo aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re
arre mach gaya shor saari nagri re,
saari nagri re
aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re
ho oo aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re

dekho arre dekho kahin aisa na ho jaaye
chori kare maakhan,
tera jiya bhi churaaye
dekho arre dekho kahin aisa na ho jaaye
chori kare maakhan,
tera jiya bhi churaaye
arre dhamkata hai
itna tu kisko
darta hai kaun aane de usko
darta hai kaun aane de usko

aise na bahut bolo
mat thumak-thumak dolo
chillaogi tab gori
jab ulat dega tori
gagri aake peechhe dagri re
arre mach gaya shor saari nagri re,
saari nagri re
aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re
ho o aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re

lalala lalaa lalala lalaa lalala lalaa
lalala lalaa lalala lalaa lalala lalaa

jaane kya karta agar hota kahin gora
jaake Jamuna mein zara shakal dekhe chhora
jaane kya karta agar hota kahin gora
jaake Jamuna mein zara shakal dekhe chhora

bindiya chamkaati raste mein na ja
manchala bhi hai Gokul ka raja
manchala bhi hai Gokul ka raja
pad jaaye nahin paala
Radha se kahin lala
phir royega Govinda
maaregi aisa phanda
gardan se baandhegi chunri re
mach gaya shor saari nagri re,
saari nagri re
aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re
ho aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re

arre mach gaya shor saari nagri re,
saari nagri re
aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re
ho oo aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re

o o o o o

mach gaya shor saari nagri re,
saari nagri re
aaya Biraj ka banka sambhaal teri gagri re
hoy hoy hoy hoy hoy hoy
hoy hoy hoy hoy

aala re aala Govinda aala
aala re aala Govinda aala
aala re aala Govinda aala
ala re aala Govinda aala
aala re aala Govinda aala
aala re aala Govinda aala

Here is the third song from “Chhattees Ghante”(1974) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Asha Bhonsle. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sapan Chakravorty.

The song is picturised as a Lord Ram bhajan. The picturisation shows Raj Kumar and Mala Sinha singing this bhajan. Master Alankar joshi, late for the bhajan by a few seconds, is hesitant to join his parents. Mala Sinha does not frown and gives him a pat assuring him that he may take his seat. And who is the lady seated behind them, devotedly joining her hands together. She is Parveen Babi.

It is rather unusual to see Raj Kumar and Parveen Babi, and also Mala Sinha to some extent, singing a bhajan. So that way, this song is a special song. 🙂

The picturisation also shows Ranjeet, trying to enter the house stealthily. So, unlike the other characters, he sticks faithfully to his reputation Hindi movies.

It is quite a nice and soothing song to listen to, especially in the morning. I listened to this song for the first time this morning, some 46 years after this song was created. 🙂

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 6
——————————————————————————

“Arpan”(1983) was produced and directed by J Om Prakash for Filmyug Private Limited, Bombay. The movie had Jeetendra, Reena Roy, Parveen Babi, Raj Babbar, Preeti Sapru, Shashi Puri, Sujit Kumar, Sulochana Latkar, Dina Pathak supported by Sudhir Dalvi, Ranveer Raj, Tom Alter, Vikas Anand, Sunder Taneja, Harjeet, Feroz, Vishwanath Shetty, Shafiq Pathan, R.R. Somaiya etc in it.

The movie had five songs in it. Three songs have been covered in the past.

The movie made its debut in the blog on 21 january 2010 with the song Pardes jaake pardesiyaa bhool na jaana piyaa . The second song was discussed one week later on 28 january 2010 and it was Likhne waale ne likh daale .

For the next ten years, no other songs from this movie were covered. Then there was sudden activity exactyly ten years later and the third song from the movie was discussed on 21 january 2020, exactly one decade after this movie had debuted in the blog. This song was Mohabbat ab tijaarat ban gayi hai Avinash Scrapwala, who is very enthusiastic about the “blog ten year challenge”.

Seeing that the second song from the movie was covered on 28 january 2010, today presents us with another “blog ten year challenge” opportunity as far as this movie is concerened. So here is another song from the movie. This song is sung by Lata and chorus. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

This song is picturised as a stage dance song on Parveen Babi and others. Jeetendra is seen among the audience.

I find this song so reminiscent of “Asha”(1980) songs where too Jeetendra would be seen witnessing the stage dance performances. That movie had Reena Roy instead of Parveen Babi. This resemblence is not coincidence. Both these movies were by J OmPrakash. His stories used to be similar. Jeetendra used to be a fixture in his movies. and the titles of his movies would start from the letter A. He produced 23 movies in his career, styaring from “Aas Ka Panchhi”(1961) till “Afsaana Dilwaalon Ka” (2001). 22 of his titles started with A. Only exception being “Bhagwan Dada” (1986), after which he reverted back to his lucky letter A.

Music of his movies during that succeesful spell (Apnapan, Asha, Arpan) used to be by Laxmikant Pyarelal. That is the reason why the songs of these movies sound similar to me.

Here is this nice song from “Arpan”(1983). Incidentally, all the four songs that have been covered so far were quite popular and they have remained so till now.

Hullo Atuldom

Listening to music is a pastime. And if it is film songs – all the more good. Plus if it is HFM I couldn’t ask for more- anyone who knows me knows this. Fellow atulites included. Followers of the blog also are aware that “vividh bharati” the radio station, is my reminder diary.

So soon as I heard the program remembering Parveen Babi – of the lustrous hair- I looked for hitherto unposted songs and found many possibilities.

I have zeroed in on a song where she is romancing Jeetendra or trying to stop him from getting into trouble. I must admit that I know two songs from this movie, one of which, a Kishore Kumar- Asha Bhonsle duet Naye puraane saal mein ek raat baaki has been posted by Sudhirji in 2014.

The movie “Raksha” had a total of five songs, the handiwork of the trusted pair of RD Burman- Anand Bakshi. The movie was supposed to be a spy movie with Jeetendra’s character having the code name ‘Agent 116’. For added measure Parveen Babi also had two names – Chanda and Bijli. Today we have the Jeetendra lip syncing to Mohd. Rafi and Asha is the female playback.

Thinking of the beautiful Parveen Babi on the occasion of her anniversary.

Song-Main chalta hoon mujhe jaane do (Raksha)(1981) Singers-Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

Blog Day : 4102 Post No. : 15251

Amitabh Bachhchan, the star of the Millennium, was born in the than Allahabad (which is the English name of city named Ilahbad in Urdu) on 11.10.1942. His given name is Inquilab Srivastava, as per Wikipedia. This is a surprise for me and surely for many people, as a never heard fact. Also has the distinction of acting as the hero in the film ‘Inquilab’ not named after him :-). His father did name him after the slogan of freedom movement “Inquilab Zindabad”. I have never heard of anyone named ‘inquilab’, but have a friend named ‘Kranti’ which is the same thing with change in language only.

So, on 11.10.2019, he is celebrating 77th birthday as the most celebrated star actor and film personality. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shree in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 The Government of France honoured him with its highest civilian honour, “Knight of the Legion of Honour”, in 2007 for his exceptional career in the world of cinema and beyond. As per Wikipedia page again, he has won 15 filmfare awards, the most nominated actor with 41 nominations so far and still counting.

His achievements include 4 national awards and Dada Saheb Phalke award for “Lifetime Achievement”.

Luckily, I had the lyrics of this song from the film “Shaan” (1980) ready to present as the birthday celebration post. I said in my reply to Peevecie’s Mom’s comments on this post that BEST buses is a topic of another post. I had this song in mind, most of which is picturized on a BEST double decker bus. “BEST” was formerly Bombay Electricity Supply and Transport, now it is renamed as ‘Brihan Mumbai Electricity Supply and Transport”. My father has been saying this to us right from the beginning that though BEST’s face are the buses which have been the more reliable lifeline of Bombay since almost a century now, its main business and source of income is the electricity supply to the city areas.

If I have to write about the BEST than the story has to start with my father. It is in family folklore that my father had after completing engineering had the option of coming to Mumbai (than Bombay) or to go to Lucknow to join the Railways. This was in the early 60’s, and Bombay was a known place of people in the family, who used to visit it for business purposes also. Also my mother’s ‘Maternal uncle’ had studied in Grant Medical College in the 40’s and everyone was familiar with the city. There was a job in hand in Lucknow, which is an unknown place, nobody in the family had ever been and far away from Belgaum. The family was in favour of Bombay as my father’s sister was already staying here at Kalyan. The decision was left to my father’s youngest sister, who voted in favour of Bambai. So he came to Bombay and joined BEST as a “foreman” trainee. There is a lot more I want to write about my father’s journey (most of it is related to BEST), but will save it for another post. Sometimes I do wonder, if he had gone to Lucknow instead of coming to Mumbai, how different the things would have turned out. I envy the people who have spent their formative years in Lucknow(met a few in my working life), their diction of Urdu language. Some of them, though convent educated did speak a fluent form of spoken khari boli which is closer in diction and grammar to the Urdu that our teachers taught us, compared to my own, the so called Urdu medium product, with our typical bambaiyya dialect. More of the royal ‘aap’ and ‘hum’ in the conversations of people of my generations who spent years in Lucknow, or thereabouts, even as far as some northern cities of Madhya Pradesh.

Will go back to Amitabh Bachchan for now. The first movie I am aware of watching in the theatre is “Do aur do Paanch”, with a similar star cast of Amitabh, Shashi Kapoor and Parween Babi, similar to ‘Shaan’ I mean. Incidently both these films were released in the same year. But we all saw “Do aur do paanch” at Belgaum during summer vacations, whereas “Shaan” was seen in Mumbai. Thereafter, Amitabh Bachchan movies were seen regularly, with the whole family. The movies of before 1980 are all seen on TV, but the movies after 1980, including “Silsila”, “Kaalia”, “Namak Halaal”, ‘Naseeb”,”KhudgarzKhuddaar”, “bemisaal”, ‘Laawaris” etc. I remember watching in theatre.

My personal favorite Amitabh films are not the comic or multistarrers, but his solo films like ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Bemisaal”, ‘Kaalia”, “Abhimaan” ‘Anand’ etc. Among the films of the new millennia, I have seen a few, but missed most of them. He is without doubt the longest running superstar of the hindi film industry.

So here in this song there are four singers, Kishore Kumar for Amitabh Bachchan, Mohammed Rafi for Shashi Kapoor, Asha Bhosle for Parveen Babi and Usha Mangeshkar for Bindiya Goswami. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and is composed by R. D. Burman.

The film is ‘Shaan’(1980), also mentioned in para 4 above.

Blog Day : 3781 Post No. : 14761

I in this blog often talk about “natural” landmarks and “artificial” landmarks for the blog. “Natutral” landmaks for the blog are those that are intuitive, viz. century of songs in the blog, and later century of songs in the blog for an artist, a contributor etc.

Later, when we began to keep track of blog related statistics, we became aware when a duo of singers completed their century of duet songs, or the blog itself completed a century (or its multiple) of days.

Many of these “artificial” (more accurately “derived” or “secondary”) landmarks went unnoticed in the early days of the blog. For instance, we completed several hundred days and also thousand days in the blog but we remain blissfully unaware. In fact, the level of blissful unawareness was such that we did not even notice it when the blog completed one year of its existence on 19 july 2009. 🙂

We have come a long way since.

While many of these landmark events have to be created by effort, there are some landmarks that happen on their own. Time related landmarks, viz hundreds of days or thousands of days get achieved with time.

Likewise, number of visitors in the blog also happen with time, though that is dependent on factors like ability of the blog to attract visitors.

This blog had a humble beginning on 19 july 2008. During its early days, it attracted less than 100 visitors daily. There were only 406 visitors for the blog during july 2008, the month when this blog started.

I regarded it as a “landmark” occasion when the blog clocked more than one hundred visits for the first time. It was on 16 august 2008, the day of Rakhi festival, when I covered the iconic Rakhi song Bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana .

The blog averaged 31 visitors a day in july 2008 and 72 visitors a day in august 2008 before breaking into the three figure region with 276 visitors per day during september 2008. 23 january 2009 was the first day when this blog received more than one thousand visitors in a day. 1145 visitors arrived on the blog on that day. The blog reached four figure a day mark for the first time during february 2009 with 1069 visitors daily. It was in june 2011 that the 2000 mark was breached for the first time. An average of 2226 visitors visited daily during this month. It took only two more months to reach the 3000 visitors a day mark. August 2011 saw 3109 visitors daily in the blog. The next peak arrived in october 2011. It was not 4000 mark or 5000 mark or even 6000 mark, rather an average of 7224 visiors per day that was achieved in this month ! On one particular day, viz 19 october 2011, as many as 10630 visitors arrived at the site !

It was too good to last though. By now we have settled at an average of over 3000 visitors daily.

In the process, the blog recorded its first one million visits on 25 october 2010, after 829 days. The subsequent million visits have come rather more quickly, as can be expected. The third millionth mark was reached the fastest- in just 152 days. Now a days, it is taking around 300 odd days (nearly ten months ) to reach one million visitos mark.

The blog clocked 10 million visits on 14 january 2018 at around 22:30 IST. The 11th million visitor was clocked on 22 november 2018 at around the same time.

Here is the summary of the eleven million visitors in the blog so far:-

Number of Visitors Date when achieved Blog day days taken for the million visits
1 million 25-Oct-10 829 days 829
2 millions 07-Nov-11 1207 days 378
3 millions 30-Apr-12 1359 days 152
4 millions 10-Dec-12 1606 days 247
5 millions 29-Oct-13 1929 days 323
6 millions 12-Oct-14 2277 days 348
7 millions 04-Jul-15 2542 days 265
8 millions 20-Apr-16 2833 days 291
9 millions 24-Feb-17 3144 days 311
10 millions 14-Jan-18 3466 days 332
11 millions 22-Nov-18 3779 days 313

I was wondering what song to discuss on the occasion. Finally I zeroed in on a joyous song from “Kaala Pathhar”(1979). This song is sung by Rafi, Lata, S K Mahan, Mahendra Kapoor and chorus. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Rajesh Roshan.

The picturisation shows almost the entire star cast (this was a multi starrer movie !) – viz Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Neetu Singh, Parveen Babi etc.

The video version of this song from “Kaala Patthar”(1979) is nearly six minutes long. But the audio version is even longer (nearly eight minutes long). I have provided both version of the some here.

I take this opportunity to thank one and all for their continued support and encouragement. It goes without saying that it was the support and encouragement of music lovers that helped the blog achieve this impressive number of visits from music lovers. Here is hoping that this musical bandwagon will continue on its merry ways with many more landmarks to achieve enroute.

Blog Day : 3737 Post No. : 14688

This song from the film Suhaag  (1979) has been waiting in my drafts for a long time now. It is a group song based on Punjabi folk and a popular one at that.

It so happened that when I saw Peevesie’s Mom’s post yesterday on Rekha’s birthday, got an idea in the mind to do a post for Amitabh & Rekhas birthday together with a song of both of them.  There are a lot of songs featuring these two as a couple yet to be posted in the blog.

Somehow I  thought of the song “Naam Re. . . Sabse Bada Tera Naam, O Sheronwaali” from Suhaag, as a trio celebration of Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s birthdays plus Navratri.  But when I looked up the movie in the list, this song is already posted by Peevesie’s Mom in 2016. So that choice got ruled out.

Further yesterday was blue day for Navratri, there was a photo session of all ladies in the office, which is the norm all over nowadays in Mumbai offices at least. A colleague made a collage of those photos and put it on the status of the office ladies whatsapp group. It so happened she had mistakenly included one group photograph from another office.

When I pointed it out to her, she said “galti se ho gaya re. . .” . I asked my husband if there was a song with the word ‘galti‘ , he said there was no such song but there is a song with the word ‘bhool‘,  e.g. “Hum Se Bhool Ho Gayee Hum Ka Maafi Dai Do” (‘Ram Balram’, 1980). I remembered the song “Hum Se Ka Bhool Hui Jo Ye Sazaa Hum Ko Mili” (‘Janta Hawaldar’, 1979). But since the song from ‘Ram Balram’ has both Rekha & Amitabh I shared the link to that song in the group. I am appreciated for thinking of a song at the drop of a hat, since we have a Hindi film song for all moments and occasions. I have reliable help in this endeavor, what with my husband being a filmy buff, YouTube etc. 🙂

So back to the song – today is yellow day and in this song at least Parveen Babi can be seen in full yellow, sunny splendour. And it has both Rafi  & Asha Singing for Amitabh & Rekha.  Asha Bhosle in giving playback to Parveen Babi too and Shailendra Singh is doing the honours for Shashi Kapoor. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist for this song composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. Amitabh Bachchan is in disguise in this song to hide his identity from friend Shashi Kapoor, which is uncovered at the end of the song by Shashi Kapoor. Overall a colourful and enjoyable song to suit a celebratory occasion.

This bhangra song is filmed in the old Blighty’s Hyde Park – London, if I am not mistaken.

Song – Teri Rabb Ne Bana Di Jodi (Suhaag) (1979) Singer – Mohammed Rafi, Asha Bhosle (for Rekha), Asha Bhosle (for Parveen Babi), Shailendra Singh, Lyrics – Anand Bakshi, MD – Lakshmikant Pyaarelal
Mohammed Rafi + Asha Bhosle

Lyrics

teri rabb ne banaa di jodi..ee
teri rabb ne
teri rabb ne banaa di jodi
tu haan kar ya na kar yaaraa
o yaaraa
ye bole jogi ka iktaaraa ho..oo

o teri rabb ne banaa di jodi
tu haan kar ya na kar yaaraa
o yaaraa
yeh bole jogi ka ik taaraa ho..oo

kya bole teraa iktaaraa
kya bole
o kya bole teraa iktaaraa
mujhe kya lena hai jogi
o jogi ee
meri shaadi marzi se hogi..ee
ho..oo

kya karne hain ghode haathi..ee
kya karne hain baaraati
nainon ki is doli mein..ea
chal mujhe bittha le saathi
ke aisi ladki kahaan milti hai
gudiya ki tarah hilti hai
din raat tadapte hain bhanwre
tab ek kali khilti hai
hatt
jaao mujhe jaane do..oo
hatt jaao
o hatt jaao mujhe jaane do
na khankaao khan khan kangana aa
o kangana
mujhe nahin ban’na tera sajna..aa
ho..oo

pehle kyun aankh ladaayi
gori ki neend churaayi
pehle kyun aankh ladaayi
gori ki neend churaayi
kar ke badnaam kisi ko..oo
banata hai ab harjaayi
iss jatt yamle se darna
ab tu inkaar na karna
chup kar ke ban ja dulha
ye laathi dekh le varna
mat baandho zabardasti se..ea
mat baandho
o mat baandho zabardasti se
mere sar sehre ki ladiyaan
o ladiyaan
