Madhubala (born 19 feb 1933) made her screen debut at a very young age of about 8-9 years in 1942 in the movie “Basant” as a child artist under the name of Baby Mumtaz. She worked under this name for the next few years as a child artist. She began working in grown up roles in late 1940s, when she was barely 15 years of age, and it was sometime in late 1940s- early 1950s that she was given the screen name of Madhubala with which she is known today.

In Hindi movies, any situation is good enough situation for bursting into a song. I have seen actors singing a song while on a death bed, or while they are fighting. They sing when sad, and they also sing when they are happy. Social occasions means lots of songs. They in fact also sing when they are travelling, be it by a bullock cart,chariot, tonga,rickshaw,bicycle,car or train.
