atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

Wo jo chaahne waale hain tere sanam

Posted on: April 28, 2012

In Hindi movies of the golden era, there was this common enough situation where the lead pair would carry out their romantic pursuits silently without even talking, and obviously without even singing a song. So what would happen in such circumstances ? Very conveniently, a two to three persons troupe would appear on the road (one carrying a harmonium- compulsory, other carrying a dholak-optional, but desirable, and a female dancer- highly desirable, but often optional)and they would sing a song, and the words of the songs would express the feelings of the shy duo.

Here is just that genre of song from “Duniya Rang Rangeeli”(1957). Rajendra Kumar is trying to open a line of communication with Chand Usmani, who very conveniently lives on a building located on the opposite side of the road, and their sign language communication goes on for some time before they are startled by the voice of Rafi. It turns out that a harmonium player, a dholak player and a boy are passing by, singing this song- “wo jo chaahne waale hain tere sanam…”.

The song also has Asha Bhonsle’s voice. She does not sing alone, but always in tandem with Rafi and here her voice is used for the boy in the three person singing group.

Jaan Nisaar Akhtar is the lyricist. Music is composed by O P Nayyar.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

PS-It turns out that this song also has a solo version which is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Sudhir jee has kindly provided the lyrics of this version as well as its link.

Wow! I never knew O P Nayyar had ever given music for a Rajendra Kumar movie! I was always under the impression the O P saab had never given music for a Rajendra Kumar and a Shashi Kapoor starrer!

There is a solo version (Asha) also of this song.

Thanks Bluefire ji,

Yes, the solo Asha version is available at

Atul ji,
I have emailed you the lyrics for the Asha solo version separately. Please see.

Sudhir

The song is a straight copy of Pahadi Sanyal – Uma Shashi duet Koi preet ki reet bata de humein from Yahudi KI Ladki. Later, in Dhoop Chhaon Pahadi Sanyal – Uma Shashi had the duet Prem ki naiya chali jal me mori chhti si naiya chali jal me which had a similar tune.
