The value of lyrics in a song is often underestimated, whereas in reality it is the words of the lyrics that influence the listeners immensely. Words are all powerful and the sentiments involved in songs can influence its listeners immensely. There have been instances when certain songs moved big leaders as well as ordinary people to tears, or roused them into action.
Music directors of the past decades respected their lyricists and worked closely with them. Lyricists often worked in team with music directors, viz.we had Shailendra with Shankar Jaikishan, Raja Mehdi Ali Khan with Madan Mohan, S H Bihari with O P Nayyar, etc.
Indeewar, who worked mainly with Kalyanji Anandji in 1960s and 70s later worked with new generation music directors viz Rajesh Roshan.
As far as this song is concerned, the first line of its lyrics is so powerful. “Dushman na kare dost ne jo kaam kiya hai” has the effect of making the listeners sit up and take notice. And after that, the rest, viz. keeping the listeners spellbound, is easy.
It is a nice song sung by Lata and Amit Kumar ( son of Kishore Kumar). The song is picturised on Smita Patil, Rajesh Khanna and Rakesh Roshan.

Indeed it is one of the better songs of 1980s.

This must be one of the few good songs that Rajesh Roshan did not copy from an external source or inspired as they call it in Bollywood.

Definitely one of the better songs of the 80s.
I liked this movie a lot – and this song in particular.
