Ya dil ki suno duniyawaalon

Hemant Kumar was a versatile playback singer as well as music director. He was perhaps the only specialist music director who used to sing as playback singer for other music directors too.
This movie “Anupama” was one where he himself was the music director and he created some memorable music in this movie. One such song viz “dheere dheere machal ae dile bekaraar” sung by Lata, has already been posted in this blog.
One of the songs from this movie that is regarded as a timeless classic was one which was sung by Hemant Kumar himself. It was the song “Ya dil ki suno duniyawaalon” which was picturised on Dharmendra.
As can be noticed, this is a sad song full of pathos and poignancy. Hemant Kumar fans rate this as one of the best songs that he created and sung.

Song- Ya dil ki sunon duniyawaalon (Anupama) (1966) Singer-Hemant Kumar, Lyrics- Kaifi Azmi, MD- Hemant Kumar
Lyrics
yaa dil ki suno duniyaawaalo
yaa mujhko abhi chup rahne do
main gham ko khushi kaise kah doon
jo kahte hain unko kahne do
yaa dil ki suno duniyaawaalo
yaa mujhko abhi chup rahne do
main gham ko khushi kaise kah doon
jo kahte hain unko kahne do
yaa dil ki suno duniyaawaalo
ye phool chaman me kaisaa khilaa
ye phool chaman me kaisaa khilaa
maali ki nazar me pyaar nahin
hanste huye kyaa kyaa dekh liyaa
ab bahte hain aansoo bahne do
yaa dil ki suno duniyaavaalo
ek khwaab khushi kaa dekhaa nahin
ek khwaab khushi kaa dekhaa nahin
dekhaa jo kabhi to bhool gaye
maanaa hua tumhen kuchh de naa sake
jo tumne diyaa wo sahne do
yaa dil ki suno duniyawaalon …
kyaa dard kisi kaa legaa koyi
kyaa dard kisi kaa legaa koyi
itnaa to kisi mein dard nahin
bahte huye aansoo aur bahen
ab aisi tasalli rahne do
yaa dil ki suno duniyawaalon
yaa mujhko abhi chup rahne do
main gham ko khushi kaise kah doon
jo kahte hain unko kahne do
yaa dil ki suno duniyaavaalo

This is one of my favourite songs.
I know I say that for many songs but this definitely falls in that category.
Apart from Hemant Kumar’s rendition of the song (which is superb) – and the picturisation (which is also superb) – is the lyrics.
What beautiful lyrics by Kaifi Azmi !
ye phool chaman mein kaisa khila
maali ki nazar mein pyar nahin…
wah wah !!!

This has to be one of the saddest songs ever written. And Hemant Kumar excelled himself when he sang it with so much pain and feeling. One of the most touching songs I have ever heard and I can listen to it again and again and again.
kyaa dard kisi kaa legaa koyi
itnaa to kisi mein dard nahin
bahte huye aansoo aur bahen
ab aisi tasalli rahne do
How poignant is that! Superb lyrics.
Thank you so much Atul for posting this.

This is a beautiful song, and it has brought tears to my eyes. His voice is so soft and smooth and conveys the pain so easily, it is amazing that a singer could convey this much pain just in his voice.
There was another good song by Asha in this movie – “Bheegi bheegi hawa …” and one song by Lata which she herself calls one of her favorites ” Kuch dil ne kaha kuch bhi nahin …” I don’t remember the other songs.
Hemant Kumar’s voice is so good in his other songs in movies like Bees Saal Baad and Baat ek raat ki. I am thinking of the songs like “Na tum hame jaano …” and “Beqarar karke humen yoon na jaaiye …” We don’t have such singers any more.
Thanks again for sharing such a gem of a song.
