Listening to this song is enough to make you feel rejuvenated and energised. And watching the video will leave you spellbound. That is what happened with me yesterday.
And it was not as if I was listening to and watching this song for the first time.
And that is the magic of this song.
Of course, I am talking about the song “Yahoo ! Chaahe koyi mujhe junglee kahe”.
Considering it dispassionately, sans all the success it has achieved, I think this song was created as a timepass song.I do not think the makers of this song ever envisaged that this song would go on to become such an iconic song.
But that is precisely what happened and this song in fact went on to serve as a template for subsequent Rafi-Shammi Kapoor songs.
Shailendra and Shankar Jaikishan, the best in their fields of lyrics and music direction, were the creators of this song.Of course, this song was sung by Rafi, and the energy that Rafi has put in this song just boggles the mind even to this date,after more than four decades. One can feel the passion with which Rafi must have sung this song. In fact, everyone associated with the song appears to have given his/her best in this song.
And when it came to picturisation, the same enthusiasm can be noticed. Shammi Kapoor and Saira Bano sliding in ice is breathtaking stuff. I read somewhere that Shammi Kapoor got a few of his bones fractured during the shooting of this song. That is the kind of passion that was involved in the creation of this song.

This is possibly Shammi Kapoor’s most famous song.
Btw, Shammi and Saira did act together again after Junglee.
They were together in Bluffmaster.

Thanks for the song. By the way, I was reading an article by Rafi’s son, in which he said that his father was a very soft-spoken man, and he had no idea how his father was able to generate the energy with which he sang some of his songs, including this one!

No idea how many Rafi-Shammi songs there are.
A good way to start would be to begin with Shammi’s movies.
Track them from, say IMDB, and then from each movie, list the Rafi songs.

This is my favorite song of all time.Here’s a bit of trivia.The song was shot near Shimla and not Kashmir.Though Saira and Shammi made a good pair,it’s beyond me why they were never paired again.
Another amusing thing is that Shammi Kapoor played Saira’s dad in a movie called Zameer in 1975.
