Mera pyaar wo hai ke mar ke bhi tum ko

I have talked a lot about Rafi-Shammi Kapoor songs as well as the clones of Shammi Kapoor, wh got to sing Shammi Kapoor style in the voice of Rafi.
Then there were a few cases where not only the actor was a clone of Shammi and worse, but even the singer was someone other than Rafi who tried to sing Rafi style.
For instance, “Ye Raat phir na aaayegi” (1966) was meant to be a Shammi Kappor style movie featuring Vishwajeet and considering that O P Nayyar was the music director, one could expect him to use Rafi’s voice.
But that was not the case. O P Nayyar those days was estrnged with Rafi, and so he used Mahendra Kapoor’s voice instead.
Mahendra Kapoor did the best he was capable of, and the song is very nice to listen to. But one cannot help feeling that Rafi would have definitely sung this song even better.
The fact is, it was sung by Mahendra Kapoor and the song is a good example of a clone of a Rafi-Shammi Kapoor song.
The song was picturised on Vishwajeet and Sharmila Tagore.

Song-Mera pyaar wo hai (Ye raat phir na aayegi ) (1966) Singer-Mahendra Kapoor, Lyrics-Aziz Kashmiri, MD-O P Nayyar
Lyrics
Mere pyaar wo hai ke mar kar bhi tumko
judaa apni baahon se hone na dega
Mere pyaar wo hai ke mar kar bhi tumko
judaa apni baahon se hone na dega
mili mujhko jannat to jannat ke badle
Khuda se meri jaan tumhe maang lega
mera pyaar wo hai
zamaana to karwat badalta rahegaa
naye zindagi ke taraane banenge
mitegi na lekin muhabbat hamaari
mitaane ke sau sau bahaane banenge
haqeeqat hamesha haqeeqat rahegi
kabhi bhi na iska fasaana banenge
Mere pyaar wo hai ke mar kar bhi tumko
judaa apni baahon se hone na dega
mera pyaar wo hai
tumhe cheen le meri baanhon se koyi
mera pyaar yoon besahaara nahin hai
tumhaara badan chaandni aake choo le
mere dil ko ye bhi gawaara nahin hai
Khuda bhi agar tumse aake mile to
tumhaari kasam hai mera dil jalegaa
Mere pyaar wo hai ke mar kar bhi tumko
judaa apni baahon se hone na dega
mili mujhko jannat to jannat ke badle
Khuda se meri jaan tumhe maang lega
mera pyaar wo hai

This is a solo by MK. Asha has no part in this song. Please correct. Also, this movie has other really beautiful songs – Aapse maine meri jaan mohabbat ki hai is Rafi & Asha duet of exceptional quality. There is a couple of other Asha solo songs which are also of very high quality. In fact all songs of this movie were very very good. Please add the missing songs.

Atul, thanks for posting this.
Btw, the heroine is not Saira Banu but Sharmila Tagore.
And indeed OP had a misunderstanding with Rafi saab at that time.
Otherwise he would definitely not have had MK singing this.
OP did not have a particularly high opinion of MK’s singing. He said so in an interview.
