“Raja” (1975) was a movie starring Rishi kapoor and Sulakshana Pandit. Few people ( including me) were aware of the existence of this movie. I was of course aware about the songs without knowing which movie these songs were from.
I recall having heard this song “jee chaahe jee chaahe” in 1975. This was an OK kind of song which did not make any great impression apart from figuring in Radio Ceylon’s “aaphi ke geet” farmaishi programme those days.
This song is a duet sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata and it is picturised on Rishi Kapoor and Sulakshana Pandit. Anand Bakshi was the lyricist and R D Burman was the music director. This is quite a nice song to listen to, notwithstanding how the movie itself fared.

Sulakshana Pandit was determined to try and make it as a “singing star”, in the old style of Suraiya or Noor Jehan. She was an excellent singer belonging to a family of classical singers.
But somehow, despite winning a Filmfare award for her singing, she never quite made it. Sometimes things don’t click.
I myself did not particularly like her as an actress but her singing was good.
