“Chaandni” was like a welcome musical oasis among the desert of plagiarised disco music in 1980s. And the fact that the music directors of this movie, shiv Hari had worked with legendary music directors of the golden era of Bollywood music certainly helped.
Hari, of this Shiv Hari duo was none other than Hari Prasad Chaurasiya, who was the biggest name among flute players. Just listen to the wonderful flute that plays in the beginning of this song. I am sure it is playe by Hari Prasad Chaurasiya himself. and this flute tune sets the tone for an outstanding vocal performance that follows.
Lata gives her best, and the male voice is that of Babla. This song was picturised on Sridevi and Rishi Kapoor.
Anand Bakshi must have enjoyed getting this opportunity to write meaningful lyrics for a change and he came up with this nice song.
Here is a song where poetry, melody, creativity etc take their rightful places as used to be the case in earlier decades. That way, this song is so reminiscent of the golden era of Bollywood movie music.

Song-Tere mere hothon pe meethe meethe geet mitwa (Chaandni) (1989) Singer-Lata, Babla, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Shiv Hari
Lyrics
tere mere honthon pe meethe meethe geet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa
tere mere honthon pe meethe meethe geet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa
pahle pahle pyaar ki pahli raat yaad rahegi
phoolon ke is shahar ki, mulaqaat yaad rahegi
kaash yahin saari umar yoonhi jaaye beet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa
ankhiyon mein tu bas jaa, ankhiyaan main band kar loon
ankhiyon mein tu bas jaa, ankhiyaan main band kar loon
pahle in ankhiyon se baaten main chand kar loon
teri inhin baaton ne liyaa mujhe jeet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa
chhote chhote din raat
chhote chhote din raat, lambi lambi baaten hain
jaldi hai kis baat ki, badi mulaqaaten hain
baaton mulaqaaton mein umar jaaye beet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa
tere mere hothon pe meethe meethe geet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa
aage aage chalen ham, peechhe peechhe preet mitwaa

I love this song! And I never knew about Hari Prasad Chaurasia, some of his work along with Zakir Hussain is the best music I’ve ever heard!
