Jiya bekaraar hai
Posted by: Atul on: April 5, 2009
There are so many well known songs in “Barsaat” (1949) that I am often not sure if I have posted a particular song from this movie or not. I just realised that I had not posted this song from “Barsaat” so far.
Lata sounds wonderfully fresh voiced in this song. In fact, it is song like this that helped Lata ( then a junior singer) become the hottest property among female singers in a matter of a few years.
This song was written by Shailendra and the music was composed by Shankar Jaikishan. The song begins with Raj Kapoor and Premnath driving away in a car and then Nimmi is shown singing this song.
This song is one of the many timeless classics from this movie.

Song-Jiya bekaraar hai (Barsaat) (1949) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
Jiya bekaraar hai
chaayi bahar hai
aaja more baalma
tera intzaar hai
Jiya bekaraar hai
chaayi bahar hai
aaja more baalma
tera intzaar hai
ho sooraj dekhe chanda dekhe
sab dekhe ham tarse ho
sab dekhe ham tarse
ho sooraj dekhe chanda dekhe
sab dekhe ham tarse ho
sab dekhe ham tarse
jaise barse koi badariya aise aankhen barse
jaise barse koi badariya aise aankhen barse
aise aankhen barse
Jiya bekaraar hai
chaayi bahar hai
aaja more baalma
tera intzaar hai
Jiya bekaraar hai
ho nainon se ek taara toote
mitti me mil jaaye ho
mitti me mil jaaye
ho nainon se ek taara toote
mitti me mil jaaye ho
mitti me mil jaaye
aansoo ki barsaat balamwa
dil me aag lagaaye
aansoo ki barsaat balamwa
dil me aag lagaaye
dil me aag lagaaye
Jiya bekaraar hai
chaayi bahar hai
aaja more baalma
tera intzaar hai
Jiya bekaraar hai
ho tujhko nazren dhoondh rahin hain
mukhda to dikhla ja ho
mukhda to dikhla ja
ho tujhko nazren dhoondh rahin hain
mukhda to dikhla ja ho
mukhda to dikhla ja
raste par hoon aas lagaaye
aane waale aaja
raste par hoon aas lagaaye
aane waale aaja
aane waale aaja
Jiya bekaraar hai
chaayi bahar hai
aaja more baalma
tera intzaar hai
Jiya bekaraar hai
chaayi bahar hai
aaja more baalma
tera intzaar hai

This is Shankar Jaikishan’s first song ever. Who would have known at that time that they would have thousand more such hits to come in later years?

Yes, definitely one of Lata’s timeless classics.
I can never tire of hearing this song.
So much life in it.
Now that Atul is into timeless Lata songs, there is a few that come to mind. Am not sure if they are already posted or not but I will put them as farmaish “through the proper channel” (as they say in govt departments in India). 🙂
