I have discussed as many as six songs from “Barsaat” (1949) in the blog. This could be more than enough for the songs of many movies, but it is an inadequate number for a movie like “Barsaat” (1949). Many iconic songs from this movie are not yet discussed.

“Barsaat” (1949) was arguably a pathbreaking movie and the music of this movie heralded the arrival of Shankar Jaikishan as the most dominant music composers of Hindi movie for the next two decades. This dominance was finally broken in late 1960s with the arrival of R D Burman.

I have discussed as many as four songs from “Barsaat” (1949) in this blog, which is obviously not enough, seeing that (i) this movie had lots and lots of fantastic songs in it and that (ii) it was a pathbreaking movie in the annalas of Hindi movies.

This song is a wonderful dance song. And when one looks at the year of picturisation (1949), one is bound to be impressed that a song and dance like this was picturised 60 years ago, when a picturisation like this certainly called for great imagination, since technology those days was far primitive.

There are many rain songs in Bollywood, and one would expect that the title song of a movie called “Barsaat” (rain) would certainly be a rain song. But there is no such luck.
