Zindagi aur bataa teraa iraadaa kyaa hai

Posted on: November 30, 2009

“Zindagi Aur Toofaan” (1975) was a movie which had Sajid Khan,Yogita Bali, Helen etc playing important roles in it. This movie was an “art” movie as low budget movies were then called. It was based on a Hindi novel by a noted Hindi author. On you tube, someone mentioned this novel as “Meri Kashti” by Mahaveer Adhikari, though I cannot vouch for the authenticity of this information.

The movie, sans big names, expectedly flopped at the box office.

But this movie had a song that was a surprise hit. This song was “zindagi aur bataa teraa iraadaa kyaa hai”.
This song is sung by Mukesh and it is picturised on a very young Sajid Khan (who is now a days a TV anchor). The lyricist of this song is Dr Ramnath Avasthi,as mentioned by someone on youtube, though other sources describe the lyricist as Ramavtar Tyaagi.

Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music, or is it Brij Bhushan ? There is much confusion about the lyricist and music director of this movie.

Full video clip of this song is not available. Here I give the incomplete video clip, as well as the link to the full audio of the song.

The movie is forgotten, but what a siong it is. This song bring backs memories of 1970s, and this song in fact deserves to be better known among the present day music lovers.

Lyrics

ek hasrat thi ke aanchal kaa mujhe pyaar mile
ek hasrat thi ke aanchal kaa mujhe pyaar mile
maine manzil ko talaashaa mujhe baazaar mile
zindagi aur bataa teraa iraadaa kyaa hai
ek hasrat thi ke aanchal kaa mujhe pyaar mile
maine manzil ko talaashaa mujhe baazaar mile

mujhko paidaa kiyaa sansaar mein do laashon ne
mujhko paidaa kiyaa sansaar mein do laashon ne
aur barbaad kiyaa qaum ke ayyaashon ne
tere daaman mein bataa maut se zyaadaa kyaa hai
zindagi aur bataa
zindagi aur bataa teraa iraadaa kyaa hai
ek hasrat thi ke aanchal kaa mujhe pyaar mile
maine manzil ko talaashaa mujhe baazaar mile

aaa aaa
aaa aaa
jo bhi tasweer banaataa hoon bigad jaati hai
jo bhi tasweer banaataa hoon bigad jaati hai
dekhte-dekhte duniyaa hi ujad jaati hai
meri kashti teraa toofaan se vaadaa kyaa hai
zindagi aur bataa
zindagi aur bataa teraa iraadaa kyaa hai
ek hasrat thi ke aanchal kaa mujhe pyaar mile
maine manzil ko talaashaa mujhe baazaar mile

toone jo dard diyaa uski qasam khaataa hoon
toone jo dard diyaa uski qasam khaataa hoon
itnaa zyaadaa hai ke ehsaan se dabaa jaataa hoon
meri taqadeer bataa aur takaazaa kyaa hai
zindagi aur bataa
zindagi aur bataa teraa iraadaa kyaa hai
ek hasrat thi ke aanchal kaa mujhe pyaar mile
maine manzil ko talaashaa mujhe baazaar mile

aaa aaa
aaa aaa
maine jazbaat ke sang khelte daulat dekhi
maine jazbaat ke sang khelte daulat dekhi
apni aankhon se mohabbat ki tizaarat dekhi
aisi duniyaa mein mere waaste rakhaa kyaa hai
zindagi aur bataa
zindagi aur bataa teraa iraadaa kyaa hai
ek hasrat thi ke aanchal kaa mujhe pyaar mile
maine manzil ko talaashaa mujhe baazaar mile

aaa aaa
aaa aaa
aadmi chaahe to taqdeer badal saktaa hai
aadmi chaahe to taqdeer badal saktaa hai
poori duniyaa ki wo tasweer badal saktaa hai
aadmi soch to le uskaa iraadaa kyaa hai
aadmi soch to le uskaa iraadaa kyaa hai

Hey, you are right – the film was indeed based on novel by Dr. Mahavir Adhikari, who also happened to be my grandad. I wasn’t born when the film was made, but I do understand that it bombed at the box office!

But video quality so bad that it is better to listen to the audio clip.

The song is indeed picturised on Sajid Khan but not the TV anchor or now director for, he must be a kid when this film was released. This Sajid Khan is the the one who sang ‘nanha munna rahi hoon main desh ka sipaayi hoon’ in the film ‘Son of India’ (1962).

Kamat Ji, You are absolutely right. This Sajid Kumar was the adopted son of the great movie maker Mehboob Khan of Mother India fame. After not getting much work post this movie Sajid Khan went on to act in a Filipino series/movie and was quite popular in that country.
