Dekho jaadu bhare more nain

The first movie of O P Nayyar as a music director was “Aasmaan” (1952). In this movie he had created songs that were diferent from his music of later movies. In this movie , he used the voices of Geeta Dutt, Raj Kumari and C H Atma.

It has been pointed out to me that this song was missing from this blog. In fact there are so many nice songs that are yet to be posted, and it will take time before I am able to do justice to all these songs. One can only try and post as many of these songs as one can, and hope that time takes care of the rest.

“Aapke Deewaane” (1980) is a movie that had some nice songs in it. This is one of the few movies I recall where Rafi and Kishore Kumar sang together. It was perhaps for the last time that the two sang together, since Rafi died shortly thereafter.

When one listens to old Bollywood songs, then one tends to form an idea about the actor on whom the song must have been picturised. If the movie has a song sung by say Rafi, then one expects it to be sung by the hero of the movie.

“Zabak” (1961) was a movie that is not known to too many people, considering that it was an B grade movie. Its music was A grade, of course.

I am aware of at least two movies by the name “Seema”. One was released in 1955 and another was in 1971. Curiously, both these movies had music by Shankar Jaikishan.

“Gateway of India” (1957) is a forgotten movie from the past. It had Pradeep Kumar and Madhubala in lead roles. The movie flopped at the box office.

“Bandini” (1963) was a melancholic movie, and so one assumes its songs to be melancholic too. But not all songs of this movie are sad songs.

“Opera House” (1961) , which is a forgotten movie, starred Ajit and B Saroja Devi in lead roles. Since the movie was a B grade movie, its songs did not have the opportunity to get popular because not too many people got to listen to them.

Pighlaa hai sonaa door gagan par

Earlier I had posted a song from “Jaal” (1952) which was sung by Lata. Now I have found that there is another Lata song in this movie, and like the earlier song, this song too is “new” for me.
