Tora manwaa kyun ghabraaye re

Posted on: April 15, 2010

Geeta Dutt had originally sung this bhajan (“Rakh na ramakda”) in Gujrati movie “Mangal Phera” (1949) for music director Avinash Vyas and that has gone on to become an evergreen bhajan in Gujarati. The same Bhajan was used in “Saadhana” (1958). This time, N Datta was the music director and Sahir Ludhianvi wrote the bhajan in Hindi. Geeta Dutt, who sang it originally in Gujarati, sang it it in the Hindi version too.

The song begins showing Vyjyanti Mala, but this song is lip synced on screen by Leela Chitnis.

I had never herad this song before. I became aware of this song only because of a long pending farmaish for this song by Lalitha, one of the regular visitors of this blog. Now that I am trying to clear up the backlog of farmaishes, this was the oldest pending farmaish.

So here is this lovely bhajan from “Saadhana”(1958).

Song-Tora manwaa kyun ghabraaye re (Saadhna) (1958) Singer-Geeta Dutt/Rafi,Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, Narayana Datta

Lyrics

tora manwaa kyun ghabraaye re
laakh deen dukhiyaare saare
jag mein mukti paayen
he raam ji ke dwaar se
tora manwaa kyun ghabraaye re
laakh deen dukhiyaare praani
jag mein mukti paayen
he raam ji ke dwaar se

band huaa ye dwaar kabhi naa
jug kitne hi
jug kitne hi beete
sab dwaaron par haarne waale
is dwaare par
is dwaare par jeete
laakhon patit laakhon pachtaaye
laakhon patit laakhon pachtaaye
paawan hokar aaye re
raam ji ke dwaar se
tora manwaa
tora manwaa kyun ghabraaye re
laakh deen dukhiyaare praani
jag mein mukti paaye
he raam ji ke dwaar se

ham moorakh jo kaaj bigaade
raam wo kaaj sanwaare
raam wo kaaj sanwaare
ho Mahananda ho ke Ahilya
sab ko paar utaare
sab ko paar utaare
jo kankar charnon ko chhoo le
jo kankar charnon ko chhoo le
wo hi raah ho jaaye re
ramji ke dwaare pe
tora manwaa
tora manwaa kyun ghabraaye re
laakh deen dukhiyaare praani
jag mein mukti paaye
he raam ji ke dwaar se

na poochhe wo gyaan kisi ki
na gun awgun
na gun awgun jaanche
wahi bhagat bhagwan ko pyaara
jo har baani
jo har baani baanche
jo koyi shradda le ke aaye
jo koyi shradda le ke aaye
jholi bharkar jaaye re
raam ji ke dwaar se
tora manwaa
tora manwaa kyun ghabraaye re
laakh deen dukhiyaare praani
jag me mukti paaye
he raam ji ke dwaar se

Today was a wonderful day for me! I woke up in the morning and after breakfast, when I came to this site, I found all my favorite songs there, including this song, which has been my favorite bhajan for a very long time. My mother used to sing this song, and I always associate this song with her. Besides, Geeta Dutt sings this song with so much emotion and feeling, it brought tears to my eyes even today when I was listening to this song. Thanks, Atul, for finding this song and writing about it.

This song was difficult to find, mainly because I was not aware about the movie this song was from.

The complete tune of this bhajan has been taken from a similar bhajan from a Gujarati film MANGAL PHERA (1949). The duet was sung by Geeta Roy (Dutt) and A R Oza under the baton of Avinash Vyas.
