Aasmaan se aayaa farishtaa pyaar ka sabak sikhlaane
Posted on: August 1, 2010
It was in 1960s that Indians were first treated to views of countries outside India and the Indian audiences were left gasping at the sight of the world, viz Japan, Europe etc and the progress that they had made vis a vis India left a lasting mpression in Indian minds, not that it led to any progress or introspection among Indians. They were just happy to enjoy these foreign locales on the movie screens.
Shammi Kapoor and his clones figured in these movies with titles like “Singapore”,”Love in Tokyo”, “An Evening in Paris”,”Night in London” etc.
Not just the sights of exotic locations, these movies also contained the activities that the natives of those places indulged in. For example, “An Evening in Paris” had a water skiing scene that was quite a novel and breathtaking experience for the Indian audience. This was accompanied by the song “Aasmaan se aaya farishtaa”. In the picturisation of this song, Sharmila Tagore is seen doing water skiing in sea and Shammi Kapoor descends into water from sky (from an helicopter). Such breathtaking stuff had the India audience gasping with awe.
All this visual eye candy was accompanied by some breattaking stuff on the musical front. Hasrat Jaipuri’s lyrics and Shanjkar Jaikishan’s music was vocalised with gutso and energy by Rafi in this song. And this song entralls its listeners and watchers even today.
Here is this awesome song from “An Evening in Paris” (1967) which was in reality picturised not at Paris but at Lebenan, which was then indeed regarded as Paris of the middle-east.

aasmaan se aayaa farishtaa,
pyaar kaa sabak sikhlaane
dil mein hai tasweer yaar ki
laayaa hoon wo dikhlaane
kaho pyaar hai tum se
jaa jaa
o jaanaa kaho pyaar hai tum se
jaa jaa jaa

Lovely, timepass song. And one of the first songs I got to know because this was one of the first movies I clearly remember seeing in my life. I knew the full song by the age of 5 or 6, I think and still remember the whole song. 🙂
It is just such a fun song – with Rafi saab in his element. 🙂

You certainly began early. Personally I recall watching one scene of a movie as a very young kid. Unless I see that scene again, I have no way of knowing what movie that was.
