Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Aao bachcho tumhein dikhaayen jhaanki Hindustan ki

Posted on: January 21, 2009

Kavi Pradeep was a lyricist cum singer who wrote with passion and sang with passion. And nowhere is this passion more evident than in this song from “Jaagriti” (1954).

Jaagriti was a movie made on the topic of nation building and national integration. In this movie, a school teacher (played by Abhi Bhattacharya) takes his students on the tour to India and explains to them about the various landmarks.

They perform this journey mainly by train. And the explanation about the various parts of the country is done in the form of this song “aao bacchon tumhe dikhaayen jhaanki Hindustaan ki”.

This is a song that can rouse any Indian. It is a song full of partiotic fervour. I can imagine that Pradee must have written this song with great patriotic fervour and must have sung with the same fervour which one can clearly notice in thepassion with which he has sung this song.

I find that this song is being searched a lot on internet these days, mainly because Republic day ( 26th January) is round the corner. So here is this national integration/ patriotic song. What an amazing song ! I have been listening to this song for 40 years and this song never fails to inspire me. And this song has the same effect on other Indians too.

Song-Aao bachchon tumhein dilkaayen jhaanki Hindustaan ki (Jaagriti) (1954) Singer-Pradeep, Lyrics-Pradeep, MD-Hemant Kumar

Lyrics

aao bachchon tumhen dikhaayen jhaanki Hindustaan ki
is mitti se tilak karo ye dharti hai balidaan ki
vande maatram vande maatram
vande maatram vande maatram
aao bachchon tumhen dikhaayen jhaanki Hindustaan ki
is mitti se tilak karo ye dharti hai balidaan ki
vande maatram vande maatram
vande maatram vande maatram

uttar mein rakhwaali kartaa parvatraaj viraat hai
dakshin mein charnon ko dhotaa saagar kaa samraat hai
Jamunaa ji ke tat ko dekho Gangaa kaa ye ghaat hai
baat-baat me haat-haat mein yahaan niraalaa thaath hai
dekho ye tasveeren apne gaurav ki abhimaan ki,
aao bachchon tumhen dikhaayen jhaanki Hindustaan ki
is mitti se tilak karo ye dharti hai balidaan ki
vande maatram vande maatram
vande maatram vande maatram

ye hai apnaa Raajpootaanaa naaz ise talvaaron pe
isne saaraa jeewan kaataa barchhi teer kataaron pe
ye Prataap kaa watan palaa hai aazaadi ke naaron pe
kood padi thi yahaan hazaaron Padminiyaan angaaron pe
bol rahi hai kan kan se kurbaani Raajasthaan ki
aao bachchon tumhen dikhaayen jhaanki Hindustaan ki
is mitti se tilak karo ye dharti hai balidaan ki
vande maatram vande maatram
vande maatram vande maatram

dekho mulk Maraathon kaa ye yahaan Shivaaji dolaa thaa
Mughalon ki taakat ko jisne talvaaron pe tolaa thaa
har parwat pe aag lagi thi har patthar ek sholaa thaa
vande maatram vande maatram
vande maatram vande maatram

Jalliyaanwaalaa baagh ye dekho yahaan chali thi goliyaan
ye mat poochho kisne kheli yahaan khoon ki holiyaan
ek taraf bandooken dan dan ek taraf thi toliyaan
marnewaale bol rahe the inqalaab ki boliyaan
yahaan lagaa di bahnon ne bhi baaji apni jaan ki
aao bachchon tumhen dikhaayen jhaanki Hindustaan ki
is mitti se tilak karo ye dharti hai balidaan ki
vande maatram vande maatram
vande maatram vande maatram

ye dekho Bangaal yahaan kaa har chappaa hariyaalaa hai
yahaan kaa bachchaa-bachchaa apne desh pe marnewaalaa hai
dhaalaa hai isko bijli ne bhoochaalon ne paalaa hai
mutthi mein toofaan bandhaa hai aur praan mein jwaalaa hai
janmabhoomi hai yahi hamaare veer Subhaashh mahaan ki
aao bachchon tumhen dikhaayen jhaanki Hindustaan ki
is mitti se tilak karo ye dharti hai balidaan ki

Fantastic song… the lyrics are so beautiful. This one reminds me of “bande mein tha dum… vande maataram”

Should it not be the other way round ? “Bande me that dum” should remind one of this song.

i would like hindi – script version of this and other song

de di hume azadi

– both in hindi.

thanks.

Absolutely inspiring song lifts our patriotism.Jhaliyawala Baug ye deko yahi chali this golia,ye mat puooch kisne kheli yaha khoon ki goliya. It was General Dyer who was responsible for it. he was later court marshalled in England but it was a farse. I read the transcripts many years later. Gen Dyer wanted to take a tank in to the baug but the ally leading to it was too narrow for a tank to pass. Hence he took the soldiers.A specific question was Dyer during the trial, would he have taken the tank in if it was possible. His answer was YES. Just imagine the level of casualties
we would have sustained and the ruthlessness of the man. More amazing is that despite being sentenced, Dyer was a free man till Shaheeed Udham Singh shot him.

The person shot by Udham Singh in England in 1940 was not General (then Colonel) Reginald Edward Harry Dyer, but Michael O’Dwyer (the then Governor of Punjab). General Dyer had died of natural causes in 1927. No court marshall or any such action was taken on him. He in fact was praised in British media and he was offered a huge sum of money when he went to England.

This one is an ever green inspirational song for me which I will even like to sing to my children. I have heard it a numerous times in my childhood and hear it even now 🙂

Thanks for the great collection. May I also add few of my classified favorites whenever I get time

Atul ji,
The film JAGRITI (1954) was a miracle in those days.
Jagriti was a small film by any standard, shorn of stars and only 4 songs,a risky proposition for those times.Despite its obvious handicaps, the film was a major hit of the year.It not only did exceedingly well at the Box office, but also won the BEST FILM Film fare award plus BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR award to Abhi Bhattacharya.
It was a VICTORY OF CONTENT OVER STAR AND STYLE.
Jagriti became a favourite of Doordarshan and Chitrahaar, and was shown on 26th Jan,15th Aug etc.
JAGRITI was a remake of PORIBORTON (1949) a Bengali film in which Satyen Bose(director of Jagriti) had acted the role of the Teacher, which Abhi Bhattacharya had done.Very few people know this.
The sweet looking Shakti(Rattan kumar-a veteran of Do bigha Zameen and Boot Polish) and angry looking michievous Ajay(Raj kumar Gupta) carried the film, along with Abhi Bhattacharya,on their shoulders.
Raj Kumar Gupta, who hailed from Ranchi (guess whose home town, besides Dhoni ?),had done Insan and Anmol Sahara(both 1952) earlier.
He acted in some 75 films till the 80s,but could not make it big and remained a small timer. Some of his films were Aaj aur kal,Dooj ka chand,Ek phool ek bhool,Bombay ka chor,Jai chitod,Ayodhyapati,Flat no.9,Flight to Assam etc etc.
Because his name appeared as Rajkumar in the film credits, many people and Internet sites took him to be the more famous RAAJ KUMAR and wrong info and data was shown.
All in all,JAGRITI is a memorable film.

Thanks for this detailed information on this landmark movie and its actors.

Atul ji,
Here is some more info. on Rattan kumar and Jagriti.
RATTAN KUMAR,whose real name (reportedly) was Anwar Mehmood, did the role of the innocent faced Shakti in Jagriti. He migrated to Pakistan in 1955-56,with his family and settled in Lahore. He did initially some child roles and then adult roles. His first picture in Pakistan was Masoom(1957) and the last was Daastan(1969).Then he stopped getting roles in films and disappeared from public eye without a trace.
BEDARI (1957) was a carbon copy of Jagriti (1954) of India. It dealt with Pakistan’s national sentiments and was a colossal success, mainly due to songs that the Music Director Fateh Ali Khan adapted (read plagiarised) from the original-all 4 of them !
All songs were same with changes in lyrics to suit Pak locales.Mahatma Gandhi or Bapu was changed to Quaid-e-Azam or Baba-e-Qaum.
At least one song “Ae qauid-e-Azam tera ehsan hai ehsan” is available on You Tube for those interested in seeing. You can see Rattan Kumar, with cruches and specs singing this song.,just like in Jagriti !

It is very interesting to know about the old movies and the events.
It is so nice reading your detailed background information about the movie.

I read about Rattan Kumar long ago in some web that his first movie as hero was Nagain and last movie was some where in 1969 with the title Daastan.(I am not sure) and no further information.
