During the golden era of Hindi film music, movies, irrespective of their grading (A, B, C or whatever) tended to have A grade music. Not just the big name music directors, even lesser music directors were just as good as any. It is just that opportunities were few and far between and any many great talents were starved of opportunities.
If one listens to the music of “Black Cat” (1959), one wonders how N Datta, the music director of this movie, failed to get more opportunities. He was not alone, there were others too, who despite of creating great music in the limited opportunities that they got, always remained on the fringes.
Here is a superb song from “Black Cat” (1959). It is sung by Lata (with a few lines by Rafi). This lovely romantic song is picturised on Minu Mumtaz and Balraj Sahni. Jaan Nissar Akhtar is the lyricist. Here is this sweet romantic song “main tumhi se poochti hoon mujhe tumse pyaar kyun hai”.
