Zamaane ne maare jawaan kaise kaise

“Bahaaron Ke Sapne” was one of the earliest movies of Rajesh Khanna before his pre- superstardom days. In this movie, Rajesh Khanna plays an ordinary man who has ordinary worries, viz he is looking for a job.
This song is in fact a “job hunt” song. Rajesh Khanna is shown going from one office to another in Bombay and he fails to land a job anywhere. The picturisation shows some well known landmarks of Bombay. It is interesting to see how Gateway of India looked in 1960s. The place looks far less crowded that it is now a days. Many more structures have cropped up in its vicinity now a days that were not there those days. For instance, Sachin Tendulkar’s restaurant, which has sprung up now a days was obviously not there those days. In fact, Sachin Tendulkar himself was yet to be born at that time.
The song is a background song which gets played as Rajesh Khanna goes from one office to another.Rafi is the singer. Majrooh Sultanpuri wrote this poignant song and music was composed by R D Burman.

He is right up there for me too, so you will not find me ever complaining about a Rajesh song. Especially if it is pre-1976. 🙂
This is a lovely song, Atul. Loved the picturisation. Not just Gateway of India but even Marine Drive (and other parts of downtown Bombay) look far less crowded here.
I was a bit surprised to see Ambassador cars, I thought Fiat had already taken over Bombay by then. 🙂 And that LIC Building? Nice to see all these landmarks of Bombay.

My favorite thing in the picturization is the peanut test—well, Rajesh’s character obviously knows the value of a peanut as does anyone who has seen the gritty side of life.
Btw, Atul, today is Kishore’s birthday. And the songs–even the RK songs (which were mostly Kishore songs)–have Rafi 😉

Great movie of Super Star Rajesh Khanna. Whenever you see & hear Super Star’s Rajesh Khanna song picturization will just great and beautiful which no other actor is having or had.

Thanks Atul. ‘Baharon Ke Sapne’ is one of RD Burman’s best IMO and this is one of my favorite Rafi numbers. The lyrics, the composition, Rafi’s singing and the picturization is just beautiful. It’s a lovely film too except towards the end. Memsaab wrote on it some time back. And Rajesh looks sooo good 🙂
