Nargis and Raj Kapoor had worked together in 14 movies in all. One of the lesser known movies where they worked together is called “Pyaar” (1950). This movie may be lesser known, but it is a trivia buff’s delight. For instance, this is the only movie where Kishore Kumar gave playback for Raj Kapoor.

Few people may have heard of this movie called “Taj” (1956). This movie had Pradeep Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala in lead roles. This pair had figured in the blockbuster “Naagin” (1954) and they were most likely signed up for this movie on the wake of their “Naagin” (1954) success.

“Baaz” (1953) is a movie that brought Guru Dutt and O P Nayyar together for the first time. This movie has Guru Dutt as well as O P Nayyar in rather unfamilar roles. Guru Dutt is shown riding a horse (that makes this song a “horse” song) and O P Nayyar composes a music that is so un O P Nayyarish (stated with the benefit of hind sight, of course).

“Raag Rang” (1952) is a movie that was a home production of Geeta Bali. This movie had Geeta Bali and her sister Sudha Bali acting in it and their brother Digvijay Bali was the producer. Ashok Kumar was the hero of the movie.

This is one song that must be as rare a song as they come. Listen to this song and try to judge the people involved in the creation of the song. It is easy to notice that the song is picturised on Dhumal and Tuntun who emerge out of the church after getting married and then immediately burst into this comic song. The song is sung by Rafi and Geeta Dutt.

This song is from a very old movie called “Dil Ki Rani” (1947). Most people involved in the creation of this song are now household names, but at the time of creation of this song, they were newcomers. In fact the names by which they were then known are not the names by which they are known today.

It is my belief that Roshan should be called the king of filmi qawwalis the way Madan Mohan is described as the king of Ghazals. Many of the qawwaalis that Roshan has created in movies have gone on to become immortal.

I came across this song from a very old movie called “Singaar” (1949). The artists involved in creating this song are not all that well known today. The singer is Surinder Kaur and the lyricist is Nakshab. Khursheed Anwar composed the music.
