Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Aayenge aayenge aayenge re

Posted on: May 18, 2010

This song is from a very old movie called “Dil Ki Rani” (1947). Most people involved in the creation of this song are now household names, but at the time of creation of this song, they were newcomers. In fact the names by which they were then known are not the names by which they are known today.

Going by the names attributed to the characters at that time, this song is sung by Geeta Roy and it is picturised on Mumtaz. Y N Joshy is the lyricist and Kumar Verman composed the music. If one uses their names by which they are known today, then one would say that this song is sung by Geeta Dutt and it is picturised on Madhubala. Y N Joshi, the lyricist is not known to most music lovers today, but Kumar Verman is known to all as S D Burman now a days.

This song is a very nice song to watch and listen to. Geeta Dutt sings this song with gusto, and Madhubala, then barely 14 years of age dances on it with abandon. I had difficulty identifying a teenaged Madhubala, but after being chided by a regular reader (you cannot even identify Madhubala ? Very strange !) in a previous post, now I have learnt to identify a teenaged Madhubala. Cheers !

This song is a forgotten gem and I could not help but enjoy watching this song several times yesterday when I discovered this song for the first time.
